Any details available about the smart signals? I assume these can respond to changing demand in real time? Would be nice to have these installed for all major road reconstructions going forward.

Sydney Coordinated Adaptive Traffic System (SCATS)

SCATS is an adaptive traffic control system that determines its traffic timing plans based on real-time information received from vehicle detectors located on the approaches to signalized intersections. SCATS relies on wireless communication to maintain signal coordination and uses an algorithm to determine and implement the best signal timings in real time. SCATS signals are sometimes referred to as “smart” signals.

Here's the latest report on "REimagining" Yonge St.( released Mar. 24) from approx. Sheppard to Finch. Here is the city's link to the full report. https://www.toronto.ca/wp-content/u...Executive-Summary-FinalFebruary-2022-AODA.pdf

Thank you for the post!

From the above:

there are currently large gaps between signalized intersection crossings,
with the largest being a 350 metre gap between Churchill Avenue/Church
Avenue and Kempford Boulevard to the north, and a 500 metre gap between
Churchill Avenue/Church Avenue and Park Home Avenue/Empress Avenue. To
reduce these gaps, it is recommended to signalize the intersections of Yonge
Street at Horsham Avenue/Northtown Avenue and at Ellerslie Avenue, effectively
cutting each gap by half. This will improve pedestrian access and safety across
Yonge.

Bike lanes should be wider for bi-directional traffic on both sides.

This is outside North York, but I wasn't sure where else to put this. From Keith Irish in Markham:

"not stall the installation of safe cycling lanes"

"report back in 18 months on options"

Something isn't jiving here.. A Q1 2027 feasibility report means construction here (optimistically) likely isn't until 2030 or so.

In the last 2022 Municipal Election, Markus O Brien Fehr (Cllr Filion's Executive Assistant who actually oversaw RE-Imagining Yonge EA) campaigned in favour of TransformYonge; Daniel Lee against,.... Lily Cheng pivoted to middle ground calling for Pilot of TransformYonge

Of course, once elected Cllr Lily never pursued a Pilot of TransformYonge - not even a Member Motion,.... just like a bunch of her other Election Promises like to "Protect The Seniors" at 175 Cummer Willowdale Manor Senior Residence against "Modular Supportive Housing",... or to protect Willowdale from Shelters (since then Cllr Lily actually championed Warming Centre at Willowdale Baptist Church, stalled conversion of 5800 Yonge Homeless Shelter back to Refugee Shelter and championed Indigenous Women Shelter at 68 Sheppard West)

Election Promises are only used to get elected,... once elected, "issues evolve",...

Here, Cllr Lily is trying to punt TransformYonge pass the next election cycle,... so it won't be an election issue next Summer/Fall,...

Correct analysis!

Businesses are suffering? Says who, you?

Then how do they stay in business downtown? The only Best Buy in the whole area is at Empress walk where there's also a large grocery store among other businesses, all of which are connected to a large underground parking garage. Losing a couple of on-street parking is not gonna do anything. You're like that piano store owner who completely dismissed the viability of bike lanes on Bloor just because cyclists can't carry a piano on their bikes, despite the fact that the street is dominated by restaurants and small businesses, not big box retail.

Maybe you buy TVs and microwaves very often, but I can state with confidence that nobody else does. If you can't imagine life without being able to conveniently park right in front of every business you wish to visit, then living in a smaller city might be more suitable for you.

You are not part of the "vast majority", and on behalf of all non-motorists we are sick and tired of hearing from drivers who, no matter what street we're talking about, feel like they are always the most important road users and that everything should be done to make it as convenient as possible for them at the expense of everybody else.

It's time that we adapt to the changing reality of how people actually get around.

Take the microwave and put it in the shopping cart and take it to the parking garage (which is free if you buy something) and put it in the car. No need to park on the street.

In the meantime,... the asphalt on Yonge St in North York was originally supposed to be replaced 5 years ago - under the City's State Of Good Repair.
