In the seven months since our last update, progress has been moving along nicely at the site of Canvar's AC Marriott hotel and residence tower. Recent images on our Forum reveal the first glimpses of cladding to appear on the soon-to-be 37-storey building currently on the rise in downtown Montreal.
Designed by Geiger Huot Architectes, the AC Marriott in Montreal will represent the first instance of the Marriott's AC brand in Canada, though the spin-off brand is already a fixture throughout much of Europe and a few select locations in the United States. Visible in the image above, the exterior will eventually be clad in a mixture of stone, wood, and tinted glass panelling, which together will give the tower a rich material palette, one seemingly tailor made for the luxury hotel brand.
Set to open in 2017, the AC Marriott will include a 12-storey hotel component that makes up the base of the tower, above which an additional 25 storeys of rental apartments and building amenities will rise before terminating at a copper-clad rooftop design feature upon which the AC logo will be emblazoned. Separating the two segments, a dark-tinted, glass-enclosed amenity space, complete with fitness centre and pool, will cap the podium level, and serve as a transition from the hotel to the apartment tower.
SkyriseCities will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
