In the seven months since our last update, Schnitzer West's NBBJ-designed Madison Centre has started to become a fixture on the Seattle skyline. The 36-storey office tower topped off back in October, and the first instances of cladding have now appeared at the base of the tower with the attached glass rotunda currently under wraps as work continues.

Soon to become home to the tower's public amenity spaces, including a 100-capacity conference centre, reception and event space, cafeteria, fitness centre, and multiple lounges, the airy well-lit rotunda will serve as a friendly welcome area for the building, its prominent street presence to highlight Madison Centre's open public persona. Outfitted with fireplaces, ample seating, and a three-storey green wall, the rotunda will play well into Seattle's image as a progressive urban centre.

Looking up from the corner, Madison Centre stands tall amid the surrounding cityscape. The 530-foot tower will be among the city's tallest buildings. Faced in a glass curtain wall, the largest outward-facing wall will feature a gentle curve. The tower's irregular massing will add a great deal of visual interest to what is otherwise a relatively straightforward glass office tower.

Once complete, Madison Centre will add 950,000 square feet of modern office space along with a significant amount of ground-level retail to downtown Seattle. Office workers will share what will likely be spectacular cityscape and ocean views, with nearby Puget Sound and Mount Baker to be visible from the top floors. The project will be a welcome addition to Seattle upon its completion in 2017, as one of several local highrise developments currently underway.

SkyriseCities will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
