Andray has posted an article on TVO's site:

" While Ford was always eager to dance in the streets and mug for cameras during Caribana, he had no qualms about casting votes in council against funding the parade. Ford maintained his brand of retail politics by answering phone calls from constituents and visiting them at their homes, yet ignored the wider needs of Rexdale – poor transit access, food deserts and an embarrassingly high child poverty rate – and offered no viable remedy while the neighbourhood slid into dereliction. Ford diverted development dollars to the high school where he coached football, yet blocked access for the rest of the neighbourhood to similar funds, instead staking the financial future of Rexdale on a failed casino project. Rexdale was Rob’s fiefdom, and he was loath to allow us anything not offered from his own wallet."

Whose fault is it that Rexdale has an "embarrassingly high child poverty rate?" Why is it the job of politicians to remedy this? How about stop having children out of wedlock? There's an idea. Be responsible parents. That would make a difference. It's not the system that creates poverty, but poor life decisions.

This extremely insulting, and I'm sure a smarter UTer might be able to explain better how poor urban planning amongst other issues can contribute to poverty aside from those irresponsible single moms. Point is Ford did sh*t to better his ward.

What a spectacle, the great gagging of the throat of a lot of smarmy city journalists. I feel like shouting bullshit at the top of my lungs, and immediately going for shower. I must be an elite because I just don't get the man's appeal on any level.

Obviously other issues contribute to poverty (losing one's job, mental illness, death of a spouse/family member, physical health issues, etc.), but many people who are destitute are in that situation because they aren't educated, have children without committing to marriage, live beyond their means and show poor judgement.

I just hate the notion that it is the government that needs to do more. It is imperative to have strongly bound families to be there for each other in times of difficulty.

How is he suddently Anglican? Doug Sr's service was United and in Etobicoke, Rob was married in a Catholic church (assume Renata is Catholic). Gosh I'm wondering if the Rector had to bite his tongue when he got that phone call.
I was wondering the same thing. The Fords are very flexible when it comes to religion, just ask Karla. It's all about the show for them, I'm surprised they didn't try and book the Vatican.
