Saw this online and I'd honestly love to see something similar for ETS, especially since LRT ridership has already reached pre-pandemic levels and promoting strong recovery numbers could change people's perceptions on downtown and LRT ridership (no you won't be alone during peak hours)

Edmonton transit ridership up 14% in 2024 - Edmonton | Globalnews.ca

The city said the Edmonton Transit Service is on track to record nearly 60 million riders in 2024 — up from 53 million in 2023.

LRT ridership on the Metro and Capital LRT Lines has also increased significantly in 2024, meeting pre-pandemic levels in the fall. The opening of the 13-kilometre Valley Line southeast from Mill Woods to downtown last fall contributed to further LRT ridership growth.

I'm basing it off what they said here. Full agreement with you on ETS not sharing their recovery success. That needs to be plastered to counter the narrative that no one takes transit or it's still empty.

Personally slightly annoyed that ETS hasn't been spreading that news tbh, I had to read it twice to make sure it was correct haha

I use it pretty regularly right now and while there are some instances of people loitering and some sketchy people here and there, Peace Officer and EPS presence is pretty common now and takes care of that quite fast. I've seen COTT teams and Peace Officers on trains and taking people out who are clearly sketchy, at least in the downtown portions. Still work needs to be done regarding people loitering in front or in the LRT entrances, but you can clearly see that there's an effort being made.

Even loitering in the Valley Line shelters has been less even if it's cold.

Curious to see if others here have the same experience as me!

... and vandalism, blocking entrances, leaving messes and garbage all over, as wells as the smoking drugs in entrances and stairwells when you have to try and get around all this.

Many of those outstanding warrants are for minor things.

Minor things that land these people in jail for anywhere from 15-45 days.

I went on a ride along many years ago with my friend who's with EPS. We pulled up to these two guys fighting. Broke them up (not me, I watched). They proceeded to run their name which came up with outstanding warrants for both of them. Long story short, they could have paid the fines to get rid of their warrants or spent 45 days in jail. They both chose jail as they couldn't afford the fine.

So minor or not, it adds up for these people.

Vandalism that costs us tens of millions.

Thefts that demoralize local store owners and lead to job losses.

Minor assaults that still make your average person scared and nervous about public spaces.

Broken windows theory also applies to the people in public spaces. It’s not about race, class, etc. it’s about behaviours.

This is good to hear, but its called the Edmonton International Airport and most of the travellers come from Edmonton.

So I wish the city would take more initiative to improve service, rather than passing around the begging bowl to other municipalities. Frankly as an Edmontonian I feel its a bit embarrassing

It's not about passing the begging bowl. It's about the way the three municipalities agreed to fund Route 747. If all three don't agree to improve service, it cannot be done. That was the main hold up until now.
