Yes, the hospital will serve all of Northern Alberta, but importantly it will also serve Edmonton. Lets not forget there are over 1 million people in Edmonton, Swan Hills for example has 1,300.
If you want to dedicate borders sure - but let's try 1.6M metro.

The location is still at least reasonably close. Seems like it you wanted it to be on the LRT with a big enough site that probably would have meant Blatchford (not in the site plan but could be adjusted & near highway and Royal Alex), Exhibition Lands (not sure of the fit), Or the heritage valley south hospital site (could have been room to eventually build another full hospital on site also?). Originally I loved the idea of staying at U of A site but I see a lot of benefit to where they have chosen as well which also has space for future expansion. No site is perfect and this one clearly came with the tradeoff of not being on a LRT line which is too bad for sure but perhaps as noted a future line to this hospital and onwards to the busy Southwest will be considered.

No it doesn’t make sense to be anywhere but attached to the UofA if it wants to retain its position as a top research hospital. This will be somewhere at the u of a main campus; most likely the blood services building
We were both very wrong. Pretty sure Bonnie Doon would've been better than this.

Out of the One Million Edmontonians, 950,000 would still choose to drive to the hospital over taking transit. All while complaining about the traffic and having to pay for the said parking, they'll still choose to drive....

Big benefit also is that there is tons of space for future infrastructure. My hot take.... The UofA farms move out and the whole area is transformed into a urban centric neigbourhood that rivals Blatchford and Calgary's Uni district main street. LRT Blue line eventually splits from the red line after South Campus station, going West at 60th Ave and then turning south down 122nd Street and ends at the new Stollery.

The province did not solely decide the site for this location. Not sure why that is so hard to understand. Various stakeholders were involved in the decision making process.

Wild assumption.

Actually daily LRT ridership is much more than 50,000 so that number seems off and given the cost of hospital parking, there is more of an incentive to use LRT.

Has the province funded this blue line yet? When is it going to be built?

They can also take the bus.

Obviously it would be ideal if a location near LRT was chosen, but the City doesn't really have a say in the matter. Between this and no hospital I'd pick the former any day.

Heck, maybe it'll convince the city to upgrade the SW BRT to LRT.
How about doing it right the first time or is this just good enough?

How about instead of everyone shitting on the announcement we recognize there has been a lot of work put in the background between the Province, the Foundation and its Board, Alberta Infrastructure and others to make this significant project a reality.
Because it is a half measure. As usual a half measure based on what we are not too sure.

Wild assumption.
Which one? On the drivership, yes I'm overexagerating just trying to make a point. As much as people here want a less car-centric city the majority mentality is far from it and quite frankly may possibly be going in the wrong direction.

On my vision? It's just wishful thinking and trying to point out how much potential this site has. An actual hospital is still a few years out. And my vision would be a few decades out for sure. Don't disregard the massive greenfield in what is essentially inner city now with all the ongoing sprawl. May not all happen in some of our lifetime; if that's what upsets people then boohoo move to Amsterdam.
