Looks like the new WestJet route out of YYC is to Sao Paulo, Brazil!

This is great. The only South American route out of Western Canada by the looks.
This did catch me off guard, wasn't expecting a winter route announcement.

Even though it's not a route to Asia, I’m still really happy for YYC. Hopefully we’ll see more flights added in 2026.

The announcement mentions onward connections through LATAM, another Delta invested airline. The only Delta invested airline we don't have direct flights to is China Eastern (3%), and their global hub is in Shanghai.

So where to next:

Top 50 airports + Australia and New Zealand without flights. Pearl River and Malay, Singapore, Jakarta grouped and coloured.
Quick question, what are the passenger counts here? Is it the total passengers from PVG+SHA via NRT for example, including those just flying from Tokyo to Shanghai?

Sao Paulo will be a nice to have. It's one of the places I've considered going to, and now even more so.

Oh, the end airport. the routing is to show how long the flight is to avoid airspace closed to Canada.
