Wow! Stunned! OC Transpo has just named Rick Leary as their new General Manager.

What is Ottawa thinking!?

I apologize for the stupidity of your politicians and higher level civil servants Ottawa.

If you thought the OC Transpo was bad now, this clown is going to run things down and degrade it to a level you've never experienced before.

How does this idiotic buffoon keep getting hired? Is the evidence from him crippling and running down transit systems in Boston and Toronto not enough proof?

It's a big club and you ain't in it. When you get into that club, you rarely fail downwards.

When you see stuff like this it means this is the outcome the people who higher him are fine with.
The city of Ottawa doesn't want to invest more in their system so they hire a guy who will be ok with it.

Given the tribulations that OC Transpo has faced post LRT would the system be better off in a counterfactual where they built a bus tunnel downtown to deal with the congestion on Albert and Slater and left the rest of the transitway system as-is? OCT could have used either battery buses, or dual mode or battery trolleybuses to deal with the ventilation problem (battery bus technology was less developed when the LRT was being planned, but OCT could have installed trolley wire on the transitway without dealing with NIMBY objections and it would have been a fraction of the cost of building rail).

I would say OC Transpo really needs a David Gunn or even Andy Byford like figure to fix the mess. Someone who for instance has the balls to tell city council that replacing the trains will be the only way to really fix the LRT, so they need to find the money if they want a system that works.

I can't wait for all the slow zones!

Ottawa clearly doesnt know what they're doing, and they are content with having their system being put into a rundown state.

The fact that they hired an imbecile in Rick Leary goes to show it.

From the CTV article above:

Sutcliffe said Leary’s “number one job” is to do a “full assessment” on O-Train Line 1.

“And make recommendations on the best way forward to restoring full service for our passengers,” the mayor said.

Lol, yeah good luck Ottawa. Your system is about to get completely de-railed, these people arent serious.

It won't just be slow zones. Rumours have been swirling the last week or so that they're planning to shut the entire line down for 6 months over the summer. I won't place much stock in them until a better source reports on it but the Mayor isn't ruling it out: https://www.ctvnews.ca/ottawa/artic...down-as-spalling-issue-continues-on-vehicles/

Electrified rail. A truly novel concept. I am ever grateful for our brave Canadian pioneers. I'm sure these are just teething problems for a brand new line...

Though if Leary turns things around - it could show that maybe he wasn't the problem.
