A couple of unique buildings - but the streets are not identified.

What are the odds that anything remains?

First shot is the north side or Wellington, east of Scott; site of mixed-use 40 Wellington development. The top of the King Edward can be seen beyond. A bit of the old Ontario Bank can be seen on the left.

Shall we revive them? I'm game!

Only we if we can do it concurrently with ascots. :) Honestly, some fashions of the past would now be costume - unless you really really have the gravitas to carry it off... ;)

The then picture might be from the part of the road that is now only accessible on foot.

There was an even earlier route of Pottery Road that didn't follow what is now True Davidson Drive - it headed south west towards this point - Old Pottery Road - you can see the route between the trees.

Worth a walk I think; I'll check it out before the snow flies. Thanks Anna. There's something about an abandoned road that appeals to something longing in all of us.

Dominion Bank vault being transported down Bay Street to the Yonge and King branch - 1914.

If I'm not mistaken, that's Melinda St. on the east side of Bay and the Toronto Telegram newspaper building at the right. Now the site of Commerce Court.

Keerect. However, they've overshot King... must be a good reason for that.

November 2 addition.

Birkbeck building. 10 Adelaide E.

I couldn't locate an online 'Then' picture, sorry about that.

Very beautiful inside. The elevator is original and must be operated by a specially trained attendant.

Thanks thecharioteer for finding that. That Sun Life building to the right looks quite 'baroque-co' - my self invented word. Some might say Richardsonian but I don't use big words like that.;)

Of course, I was joking about the blonde walking in the foreground...

I was joking too when I decided to leave her in the picture.:)

There is also a very handsome oval board room. Take a peek next Doors Open.

Missed this one at Doors Open; I'll file your rec and be sure to have a look, thanks.

The building is now known as "The Ontario Heritage Centre".

This is its official government web site.

Must be neat too work in a building like that. Or have a job in an organization like that. Thanks dbailey62. Welcome to Urbane Toronto.

November 3 addition.

Then: Kingston Road W from Silverbirch. October 16 1922.

That big old house on the right is still there hidden behind a store front.

Thanks Mustapha. It's great to be here.

I can't say I work in that building but I do work in a building with a great view of the closed Whitney Block tower and it is indeed very neat.

I took the annual United Way fundraising tour of the WB last year (for employees only) and the shots can be seen here.

But nothing beats this wonderful old postcard.
