The Liberals have been in power for 10 years and Metrolinx been around for 8 years - and the result is us being the worst in North America. How is this proof that the Liberals or Metrolinx should not be criticized.
I guess we were first before the Liberals came into power, now we are dead last.
 
Liberals didn't really start to push Trandit until 2008ish anyways, other than the spadina extension which I consider to be seperated from the current transit push categoritely. (Completely different funding structure)

Since the liberals gained power we have seen:

York U busway
BRT lite throughout suburban transit agencies (with Durham pulse being the newest service, and viva being the most famous example)
Huge GO expansion, including essential doubling of service levels on most lines
GO extension to Waterloo
Barrie extension
Double decker GO buses
A bunch more "quick wins" that Metrolinx implemented in their first phase of the big move

Stuff opening In the next little while (this is where we will start to see a big difference in transit service)

Viva bus lanes throughout York region
Mississauga transit way
Spadina subway extension
Union station expansion
UPx
Presto
Major parking garages at many GO stations

Projects that are a bit longer term but still funded:

Eglinton LRT
Finch LRT
Sheppard LRT
Scarborough subway

And of course the stuff that they want to fund with the big move taxes:

DRL phase 1
DRL phase 2
Yonge subway extension
Hurontario LRT
All day GO on all lines
Hamilton LRT
Queen brt
Durham brt
Dundas brt
GO electrification of lakeshore and Kitchener lines

Then there is other stuff like GO extensions and other upgrades that will come from metrolinx's existing capital budget that are unannounced. (New tracks, parking,
 
To the above, you could also add KW's ION LRT and Ottawa's Confederation LRT. Not GTA specifically, but still important.
 
It would be very exciting for new transit lines to be built, as long as the Unprogressive Unconservatives are not in power.

That's disappointing news (again) from Glen Murray.

But really Ottawa council were being crybabies, just like Toronto council always is. They said they wanted Ontario to upload it and, if not, they wanted to charge a toll to non-residents. So they were just trying to shift responsibility.

They should have asked to charge a toll on all users to pay for a widening of the highway. If they were proposing a way to pay for new infrastructure, it would be pretty hard for Murray to say no.

Lessons for the left on Toronto's council in this?

Glen Murray has worn out his stay in the Ministry of Transportation. Time for a portfolio shuffle, even if a minor one.

The 174 is effectively a 400-series highway. The province should upload it. Ditto for the DVP and Gardiner.
 
Idk if the DVP should get a 400 series designation though. The cynic in me says it should be rebranded as the 404, but the construction standards aren't anywhere close to that of your typical 400 series road.

You do not have to meet 400 series standards in order to be a 400 series highway. 406 through St. Catharines is 80 I think through the valley. I think 403 is 90 through Hamilton. Both are 100 through other parts.

So hwy 404 could continue all the way to the Gardiner and the Gardiner could be called QEW from DVP to fort Erie.

If you want to really simplify it just number it 404 from Fort Erie to Toronto, up the Don Valley and to Newmarket.

There's nothing stopping the highway having a second name, like many other highways. The 401 is (or was at least) the McDonald-Cartier Expressway. The 7/8-7-85 in Waterloo is the Conestoga Expressway. The 6 in Guelph is the Hanlon. Etc.

The QEW is already referred to as Highway 451 in internal MTO documents. It's just never signed as such.
