We seem to cycle through lots of different topics in this thread. So many topics, in fact, that it's sometimes hard to believe that they all lead back to one man and that he is our top elected official.

Here's a list I just wrote in about 3 minutes off the top of my head. I'm sure there's more.

In no particular order:
  • Drugs, drugs & more drugs
  • Prison beatings
  • Violent gangs / drug dealing / gun-runners
  • Corruption (GFL? Ferris wheel/megamall?)
  • Organised crime (see previous point?)
  • Conspiracy to commit extortion
  • Impaired driving (witnesses & a first-party confession!)
  • Breaches of electoral law
  • (Underage?) escorts
  • Violent home invasion
  • Crack houses (with hydro bills all paid up)
  • Massive police operations
  • Domestic assault / threats against women
  • Openly taunting the Chief of Pollice: "Arrest me!" / "C*cksucker"
  • Homophobia
  • Racism
  • Transphobia
  • Cross-addiction with regular severe relapses
  • Sexual assault
  • Public urination
  • Littering(!)
  • ...and of course: infinite lies & BS
I'm sure I missed some stuff.

Jaywalker!

A note on Mark Towhey: I've come to the conclusion that Towhey is clever, moderately charming, occasionally quite funny and certainly a good strategist; however, I also think he is a terrible human being whose righteous conduct (i.e. going to the police about the video and the surrounding events/threats etc.) is motivated less by a desire to do the right thing, and far more by a desire to ensure that the good ship Towhey doesn't take on more water than the captain can bail out.

Towhey is a sleaze who is only looking out for number one. He was happy to cover up Ford's bullshit until he could no longer doing that without incriminating himself. Wonder how many instances of drunk driving Towhey looked the other way on.

I'm sure Ford is stupid enough to be involved, but all indications are that he was not at all involved. This is just a fantasy for the ant-Ford camp. Smith was murdered because he was a drug dealer / gun trader / thug who made the wrong enemies.

Fantasy? I fantasize about taking a nice vacation or retiring early one day, not about senseless murders. I hope any conection to Smith in this case is wrong, because it would just be a tragedy if right. 9 months ago, I too would have dismissed any connection - but as things become more and more surreal nothing seems impossible. Especially given the money and police resources going into this case. What indications do you see that exonerate Ford and co?

Ask him! I've seen several people ask him on Twitter, and his response is always along the lines of: "You wouldn't like the answer; it's boring and wouldn't play into your twisted dreams of me as some sort of evil drunk-driving-hiding mastermind, you hateful Twitter person"...

...but he never actually gives a straight answer. If the answer is so boring, why can't he just give it?

Yep.

So, yep: despite having some redeeming features, Towhey is an mercenary, vain and cynical man who took - and takes! - great pride in having helepd propel Ford into the mayor's office. He has always been too coy by half on the subject of what he knew about Ford and when, especially Ford's serial drink-driving; anyone questioning him on that last one is likely to get a response that is long on diversionary unpleasantness and short on facts.

Something was always bugging me about the Towhey/Price conversation on May 17. The ITO takes the time to note that Towhey didn't like Price. Towhey noted that he usually did the hiring, but that the Mayor insisted Price be hired (at the behest of Doug). Towhey notes that Price is paid $130000 when it ought to be $70000 and that Towhey thinks he's not qualified. (Towhey 2nd interview, ITO pg 77)

But back to the first interview: Price called Towhey and started to say "hypothetically..." and Towhey was like "don't screw with me, tell me what happened."

Then Price brings up the Smith murder, suggest he may have been killed for phone. (ITO Towhey interview #1,5/18/13, starts on pg 29).

I wonder if Price didn't feed Towhey false info, knowing Towhey would dutifully report it all to police. The info wasn't ALL false (320 Dixon drug dealers, etc) but maybe he thought if he sends police in the wrong direction (Smith murder), it would buy them some time to retrieve the video from Siad.

Hmm. Hadn't considered that. Perhaps Price thought Towhey was onboard with the wet work, given Towhey's rep for being evil and that he was Rob Ford's chief of staff (which fact alone is evidence of there being something wrong with you, I'd say).

Seems a bit convoluted, though; too complex and too much of a long shot. Also implicates Doug more directly in the Smith thing, which - despite my loathing of Doug - I don't buy.

Anyway, why provide info about where the video is to someone you don't think is fully on your team?

J. McGrath and Jonathan Goldsbie on The Twitter are pointing out that this bill will die on the order paper if a likely spring election comes to pass.

I'm just thrilled that it passed today.
True, it'll likely die shortly [Gas Plant Benghazi Blargh!], but it is a victory for our democracy.
It inches us closer to a Toronto where another Rob Ford is impossible.

Ya, I somewhat bought the Toronto cops' story about why they were using homicide investigators. But, now with the OPP guy also being from the same background I'm suspicious. Cops apparently have shown no interest in Doug or Randy. Only Rob.
Maybe Randy and Doug just aren't aware. If anyone has the thousand yard stare into the future lately it seems to be Rob. Doug and Randy don't seem to know how badly it's all turning to shit.

Side note: it always strikes me as funny that more people don't make that joke; it seems so natural. Didn't everybody at least read Brave New World for school?
LOL

Rob is a Delta, he would have been perfectly happy mowing grass like Forrest Gump.

Remember, he's a politician because he could give less than a shit about running Deco and he's the only brother with an ounce of charm.

Mom and Pops wanted to be Kennedys but Doug and Randy are Goons. At least Rob has the childlike rapport with people.

If murder, or accessory to murder comes down as part of possible charges, how soon until the province removes him? I'm betting hours.
