Switzerland has four national languages: German, French, Italian and Romansh. English, though not an official language, is often used to bridge the divides, and a significant proportion of official documentation is available in English.

That his supporters hand wave away with nonsense. I don't think this sways anyone unfortunately.

Anyone visiting Québec outside of Montréal and perhaps the Eastern Townships and Sherbrooke should expect that some of the people they meet won't speak English or be able to provide them with information in English.
I would extend that to include the AR40/85 corridor and the Gaspe, simply because of tourism. We've spent a fair bit of time on Hwy 132 (to avoid 40) and never had difficulties communicating.

That is to say, because Mx operates under the French Services Act, the Crosstown, Finch, and .later the Ontario Line will all be compliant with the French Services Act, and the TTC is concerned (amazingly, LOL) that will mean two different styles and use of French depending on which line you're on.
I thought the province was just building them and the TTC was going to be the operator.

Correct, but they are being built with Metrolinx signage standards.

The inference was that if Mx is the owner, then it must comply w/the Act, regardless of the operator

It's PM Mark Carney's Canada, now.

Carney wins the Liberal leadership race.

Time for a new thread then. At least once he's sworn in....

Of note.............we all expected this to be a coronation from some weeks back.....but 85% of the vote! Bit of an ouch for Chrystia.

Yes, she's a smart woman (who I hope stays around to help us) but, unfortunately for her, too tied to Trudeau - who has sprung back to life in the last 2 months. Glad he went out on an up - overall he was a very good PM and was classy to the end.

I voted for Carney and of course I'm happy, but we will see if the technocrat that he is can connect with ordinary Canadians in the upcoming election campaign. Ignatieff and Dion were also very qualified, yet failed.

Well he's already talking about pandering to conservatives with axing the tax and caving on taxing the rich.

I'm left-leaning and normally would support the NDP if it were led by a competent leader, but I'm not going to emulate the many US Democrats who refused to vote for Harris because they were unhappy with Biden. I will disagree with Carney moving the Liberals to the right, but Poilievre is enemy no 1.

Agreed. Still disappointing to see.

Understood. I assumed MX would simply turn over the keys and ownership and a half tank of gas.
