I voted for Carney and of course I'm happy, but we will see if the technocrat that he is can connect with ordinary Canadians in the upcoming election campaign. Ignatieff and Dion were also very qualified, yet failed.
There are some elements of the CPC and PP that bother me, but my big caution with voting Liberal again, regardless of the leader, is enabling the same party structure, the Telfords and (formerly) Butts of the world. That's where the real power lay and it is toxic.

I'm left-leaning and normally would support the NDP if it were led by a competent leader, but I'm not going to emulate the many US Democrats who refused to vote for Harris because they were unhappy with Biden. I will disagree with Carney moving the Liberals to the right, but Poilievre is enemy no 1.
I'm not sure he's moving them that right though, but we shall see...

...in the meantime, can someone get a Carney thread going here?

Notwithstanding my own concerns, which might not be dissimilar to your own..........

Anything you want to share w/Katie? 🤨

I mean, I'm no @Allandale25 but....I know the odd person....LOL

According to Chantal Hebert, the entire PMO is rumoured to be replaced, except for one person. So it's a changing of the guard, not simply putting a new horse on the same wagon like with Kamala.

None at all. I'm just an old guy up north sitting in a barqu-o-lounger with a laptop. I simply rebel against the concentrated power of a Prime Minister's Office that is wielded by unelected, unseen, unaccountable and, to the majority of Canadian, unknown party staffers. I don't know if Trudeau the First started it or simply honed it to perfection, but do know that no PM since has sought to unravel it. My vision is a return to PM that is answerable to an uncowed Executive (Cabinet) and Parliament.

If Carney breaks from the folks that brought us JT and Wynne, it's a start, but I doubt they will be riding off into the sunset, and simply means new unelected and publicly unaccountable puppet masters.

“Purchase of assets
Members not seeking re-election may not purchase House assets for their personal use, with the exception of a replica of their chair in Chamber, which may be purchased at replacement cost, plus applicable taxes […]”

Good for him I guess... LOL. It's just interesting to see, not something you see everyday!

Well, keep in mind he needs to think about furnishing a little flat somewhere. Maybe the replica chair would go nicely in the gift wrapping room or the sock storing room wing.
