Premier Kathleen Wynne and What Her Election Means for Transit

Yes they do, since people around the province aren't going to be happy watching "their tax dollars" all apparently being funneled towards the GTA. Since you used North Bay as an examples and I know that city well, I will say that residents were and are not happy that the Northlander was...

Premier Kathleen Wynne and What Her Election Means for Transit

Ummm... http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/toronto/stintz-will-discuss-zone-based-ttc-fares-once-presto-pay-card-in-place/article7964874/?cmpid=rss1&utm_source=dlvr.it_tor&utm_medium=twitter There may be no official plans, but that doesn't mean it's not a possibility. And I'm afraid I...

Premier Kathleen Wynne and What Her Election Means for Transit

I was going to start listing some of the other great things about London like that, but I wanted to keep my post concise. One thing to mention about that though is that buses and river services don't count towards what you mentioned, buses and trams are flat rate (as they should be) and river...

Premier Kathleen Wynne and What Her Election Means for Transit

I don't think surface vehicles could be fare by distance, and as others have mentioned I'm not aware of any mass transit systems that have FBD on buses or trams for local service. You don't have to necessarily install fare gates at stations though to get FBD on the subway - you could just go the...

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

Yeah I don't think anybody was quite expecting the level of demand for the 10 000 cards they were releasing. They had to add 2000 more just to cover the days they claimed they'd be out at other stations giving them away.

    TTC: Redesigning TTC Signage

As others have mentioned, I don't think the TTC needs a new name or redesign. I think the better project would be to envision what a new regional transport agency would be called and branded as, if all GTHA transit agencies were to be combined into a new super agency as has been tossed around...

    TTC: Redesigning TTC Signage

I agree that it seems redundant to design new pictograms, but I don't think just going with an international standard is necessarily better. It's all about conveying the message as effectively as possible, and to this end I think the pictograms have to be evaluated on a case by case basis. My...

    TTC: Redesigning TTC Signage

I noticed, and realized what you had done there. It's a good depiction of the train, but somehow it seems grumpy, mean or upset, to me it doesn't invoke a friendly image. GO changed logos with their new engines and the new one arguably looks better than the last one and presents a cleaner image...

    TTC: Redesigning TTC Signage

I don't think you could use different logos for the different trains on the Y-U-S, my guess is that most people have no idea that the Rockets run only on the Y-U-S. In the minds of most people, regardless of what type of train shows up a subway is a subway. A different logo for the LRT lines...

    TTC: Redesigning TTC Signage

This looks better. I acknowledge that the TTC font isn't great for directions but it maintains the character of the system. This font does so as well. It doesn't seem out of place.

    TTC: Redesigning TTC Signage

Very clean and legible, and reminds me quite a bit of the London Underground. I may well be mistaken, but if that's not the Ontario Northland font it's extremely close. The colours remind me of the ONR quite a bit too. My biggest issue is the font though, it isn't particularly distinctive. Most...

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

The question is what kind of Heavy Rail? Subways, UPX and GO trains all fall into that category. Although at first glance building a TTC subway line makes the most sense, building a GO compatible S-Bahn type system could also work and relieve congestion in some other places.

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

I think we can all agree that PRESTO is a solid plan, but that 1.0 was flawed in some small but key areas. I don't think replacement at this point would be cost effective by any means, unless Ottawa discovers another flaw that causes them to reject the system next spring. I think at that point...

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

I think the concept of building the DRL as a S-Bahn style service with double deck overhead powered EMUs is a good idea for many reasons, but is unlikely to happen due to an even larger list of reasons. S-Bahn style services are used around the world, usually as a second network laid over an...

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

I think there might be some confusion between what is being thrown around as the concept of "Open Payments", where contactless credit and debit cards are used, and the Open Payment Initiative, which is a standard used between the software on the register and the card reader/processor unit...
