Metrolinx: Bombardier Flexity Freedom & Alstom Citadis Spirit LRVs

What's everyone's opinion on this? Is it a punishment of Bombardier or an admission that Metrolinx ordered too many vehicles?

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

I think it would be smart to order the extra 60. Due to inflation, they won't get them at a better price, the assembly line is still going, no prototypes/new custom designs are needed, and at the rate BBD is going it would only take two more years to get. After that, if they still need new ones...

Am I going to be right?!? Maybe they'll pull 4459 from a hat and beat my guess.

    Ontario Northland/Northern Ontario Transportation

Apparently, the train did have fairly high ridership around major movements of students (labour day, thanksgiving, chistmas, reading week, etc, but that probably covers about 10 days a year. They also *apparently* had a higher ridership pre capita than Via does, problem being low population of...

Yes, but the poor guy shovelling the coal has to deal with a lot of issues. Just kidding, I was more referring to adverse weather conditions, although I suppose it's possible for a train to be affected as well.

If 4455 is actually here, they're churning out cars faster than I thought they would. I thought they were steady at 3 per month, and now they only have to bring three in December to beat my estimate. Still late, but encouraging. Baby steps.

Waterloo Region Transit Developments (ION LRT, new terminal, GRT buses)

Apparently the third car is being kept back for show and tell but someone on facebook had a picture of what is apparently the fourth car waiting for pickup in Kingston.

A per Flexity Tracker, 4451 is now undergoing testing.

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

I tried looking at the map, and streetview pretty closely. It's hard to tell the exact width of the right of way, and I don't know how wide the rail ROW would need to be. That being said, I think that soil conditions would probably not affect the width of the tunnel itself so much as it would...

This 3.7 km stretch could be done without much of that...

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

see "Byron Linear Park"..... in Ottawa Edit: just checked google maps, it looks like a good chunk of the land has enough space that could be used without too much trouble, but there would be some trouble spots. I do think that if the middle has space for LRT, it has space for a trench. Maybe it...

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Would it be possible to build it in a trench? Maybe too much construction disruption, but it allows for grade separation and is cheaper than tunelling. Kind of like this, except in the middle of the road? https://www.google.ca/maps/@51.0378835,-114.1480652,134m/data=!3m1!1e3?hl=en For example...

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

I'm wondering if maybe they aren't being tracked quite as vigilantly as before. Not a knock on the guys in the communications chain, but I'm sure that they have better things to do than looking for all of the 200+streetcars to come out. It might be like 4450 where we don't know it's out there...

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

Personally I'm skeptical about 60. They seem to have reached the 3 car/month threshold, so with a desperate end of year extra car or two I'll guess 57-58.

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

Based on the current rate, I predict that next year we'll see between 30 and 40 new cars, probably between 35 and 38.

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

I realize the schedule makes for 65 cars, but this year they've managed to go from reliably 1-2 cars per month to 2-3 cars per month. While that's good news, it still won't be enough to get to 65 unless they ramp up output faster than they've managed to before. That's why I'm thinking there will...

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

Even though I'm a bombardier fan, I have to admit that I never thought we'd get 70 cars either. In fact, I don't even think we'll get 65. Based on this year my guess is 55. Has 4449 come yet? I've ridden on the Vienna ones too. Those new BBD ones look kind of skinny.

    Ontario Northland/Northern Ontario Transportation

Hello, It's too bad about the original Northlander (I filmed the last train leave North Bay for a college assignment). I was just wondering... Is there any merit in the idea of using, say, the Nippon Sharyo DMU's for this service if ridership can't support a big train? ONTC does train refurb so...
