This is great. TVO has already covered water routes (Bruce, Niagara, Rideau) and this rail run is wonderful.
TVO should start planning now for a "Tripping The Northlander" to launch their next documentary for when The Northlander returns in 2024(?).
I imagine that changing Ireland over would be much easier as none of the network physical connects to Britain (the island). Given the size, could Ireland force NI's hand and make them change too?
So happy to see weekend service. It’s not all the way but does the job and beats the 3 hour milk run that is bus 31
The new bus to Hamilton / Waterloo is great to see. I advocated for this at meetings and I’m so happy to finally see it come to fruition
This is a long time coming and will be really helpful for off peak service.
Fingers crossed the next service announcement is a GO Guelph - Kitchener Bus and weekend train service (that includes service to London)
Build a line right now? No.
Acquire the right of way for future heavy rail use? Yes.
I'd like to see a GRT bus to the airport from Breslau once it opens. That'll make the airport very popular for budget flights with students with all day train service.
With logic like that VIA shouldn’t stop at Oshawa, Guildwood, Oakville, and aldershot either.
Not everyone is going downtown and having one stop in the northern GTA makes a good transfer.
I was just thinking- What about service to Sudbury via North Bay? Sudbury is the largest metro area in northern Ontario and already has a downtown station (VIA). I know ON doesn’t own the tracks west of North Bay but such a service with business amenities could do well.
It would take longer...
This is excellent news. I hope ON and the government also see the benefit of a Daily Toronto-North Bay service. And with a cost sharing agreement with Metrolinx to allow riders from Gormely to take the train to Toronto mid day.
The lack of weekend service is so disappointing. I agree such a service needs to go to Mount Pleasant at minimum. But 2 morning trains from Kitchener would be great.
I hate taking the bus all the way from Union. It’s a slow milk run and trains allow you to get out and stretch.
So...
Will the new follow follow the GO Transit model of the locomotive always facing away "East" of Union? Or opposite? I assume with the new fleet the locomotive car will never enter Montreal Centrale first (same with Quebec Palais)? That would making booking a seat feel more predictable when...
My biggest beef with crane girl is that she didn't wear steel toe safety boots. When I first saw that pics that was my biggest shock - if you're going to commit a crime and trespass a construction site at the very least lower the risk of getting tetanus.
