Here's a very old image I still have on my hard drive. It's dated 2006-01-12. I was still living in the UK at the time. I remember thinking this was a vision of the future, but in retrospect, this was likely my first case of being deluded by renders!

Quite the delivery of crane sections today, so it looks like it's in for a serious height adjustment this weekend.

Tall Poppy Syndrome is an attitude I'm very familiar with from my home country (UK), but contrary to your observation, I don't see anywhere near as much of that from Canadians, who I find to generally be supportive of innovators. Not saying it doesn't exist, though.

The crane was raised by one section early this morning (or maybe last night, as I wasn't paying attention). There are two more sections waiting in the wings.

Perhaps a future UT front page article could be an educational piece on what the roles and responsibilities of a property developer, architect, and general contractor actually are, so people don't get themselves in such a tizz.

There is no spire on FCP, just guyed antennas. A structural spire would be counted in the building height, but antennas are not.

The brightness of the horizontal lights has definitely been lowered slightly over the last few nights. Coincidentally following the news stories on the subject.

^ Agreed. It's a sampling drill, not a caisson drill, so I wouldn't qualify this as "under construction" yet.

Climbing hoarding going up...

It's funny, as back in my youth, Kings Cross was a super sketchy post-industrial wasteland, although it did have two great rave clubs. Amazing how it's changed now.

Crane climbing section going in today:

Some interesting angles showing on the floorplates on the east side, and some new red frames going in on the formwork on the top floor.

One person's "tacky" is another person's "vibrant". I'm in the vibrant camp with this one.

The climbing section arrives. Shame I'll be out the rest of the day and won't get to watch the whole process. Who doesn't love a bit of crane action on a sunny Saturday morning...

Would have preferred the bank branch on Simcoe, and the restaurant on Front, as that stretch of Front needs some life. Otherwise a great development.
