This is true the way that Metrolinx has implemented the T, using it as an identifier for all types of transit. But other cities have created something similar for rapid transit only, which doesn't appear at bus or streetcar stops. The U in Berlin, the roundel in London, the down arrow in...

You're bang on about Finch Station. If you want to get on a YRT or GO bus the logical thing to do is follow the signs that say "Buses". But of course that's not how it works. You have to follow the GO and YRT signs. Our wayfinding system requires users to not only memorize a complex web of...

Rarely does the average person learn the name of the agencies running transit systems. Instead they learn to look for an M or a T or something along those lines. I'm not sure what you mean here. Every TTC bus and streetcar stop has the iconic TTC logo. This one for example. Sure, it's smaller...

The problem is that an agency logo doesn't actually have any useful information, like what type of transit you're going to get. The TTC logo could mean anything from a subway to a bus to a streetcar to their corporate offices. With Montreal's down arrow signs or Ottawa's O signs, you know...

The T would make sense for rapid transit stations across the GTA. But they're using it for bus stops too which makes it confusing and not useful. An agency logo isn't useful either because it doesn't tell you what type of transit it is, just who operates it.

That's not a new GO Transit logo, it's a logo to identify transit stations.

    Canada and the World

Being in the same league as those countries might sound impressive but I'd argue it's where we should be. We have the most coastline in the world, a huge arctic archipelago, and a top 10 global economy. Plus at approaching 40 million, our population isn't insignificant either. Our navy really...

And we still haven't learned the lessons of the past. The cold and bleak charcoal buildings getting built in large numbers today aren't any better than the brutalism of yesterday. Architects have been trying and failing to get the public to prefer modern architectural styles for a century. The...

    2023 Toronto Mayoral by-election

So what specifically are you arguing?

    2023 Toronto Mayoral by-election

23 pedestrian/cyclist deaths and 77 serious pedestrian injuries last year is still way too many and shouldn't be dismissed. The good news is that improvements are being made but we have a long way to go. Let's try setting the bar a little higher.

If you set the bar any lower it would be underground.

    VIA Rail

Capitalism in and of itself isn't the problem. The advanced European and Asian economies that have effective rail systems and affordable housing are also capitalist. Let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater.

    Planned Sprawl in the GTA

So the right invents an insane new conspiracy theory but somehow it's the left's fault. Right.

    A common misconception.

    VIA Rail

The Alstom concept has a significant section of 200-300 km/h high speed track in Ontario. Let's look at the (highly preliminary) trip times. Toronto-Montreal: ~600 km in 3 hours - 200 km/h average speed Montreal-Quebec: ~270 km in 1:40 - 160 km/h average speed So calling this only a...

    VIA Rail

I'm not sure what you're trying to argue here. Keeping the high speed section to the part where freight trains don't run seems prudent to me. You're making a lot of assumptions. The original HFR talks about speeds that "could eventually reach 200 km/h". We don't know what speed the section east...
  18. M

    VIA Rail

The Alstom concept doesn't have high speeds on the track that freight would use. Freight trains run as far as Havelock, a section that would have passenger trains run at 144 km/h. The high speed section starts past that.
