Notice here of borehole drilling along Don Mills, starting today and continuing for approximately 8 months, to verify soil characteristics and inform design of the future guideway and stations.

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

Standard engineering consultancy practice of strategically juxtaposing design alternatives.

Poor assessment I’d say. You don’t need to speculate so drastically when there are regular updates from the CLC. They don’t need to cut in / shift the entire 2km of rail, it will be done piecewise. Between Eastern and Jimmie Simpson, tracks will begin to shift before year end. And IF it took...

Another bit of curtain wall is going up on the 5th floor west side today.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Some missing context: her next show was the following night in Detroit, they most likely travelled by tour bus.

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Finished abutments at Jimmy Simpson, crews working on catenary to prepare for bridge placement over the weekend (notice here). This may be our last picture before the bridge deck is in place.

On LinkedIn, I follow a few construction companies working on OL so I happened to see this post with great, recent construction photos (SBC is a team responsible for a lot of the piling). Link to post, also sharing a few of the photos below.

The pile caps / pier will go here. Note the new bridge doesn’t quite run parallel with the GO tracks, so the east pier is relatively further from the GO tracks. Can’t speak to the hole / pile closest to the crane base. Possibly to do with the high voltage line being realigned away from the...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Can’t say with confidence the new section looks higher but they need to keep the old clearance signage until they demolish the other half of the original bridge.

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Some of the transparent noise panels have been installed on the south side of the corridor’s east end, near Pape and Gerrard. These were installed early because the corridor is not widening any further to the south at that location. They are transparent but I don’t know the material and don’t...

Looked like the floor inside was being cleaned up and possibly sealed today. Also the connection to St. Lawrence Hall looks nearly complete on the outside.

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

You will tend to see it when the sidewalks are very busy downtown. As far as dedicated cycle tracks go there aren’t many I’ve been on far in the west, but I occasionally see runners in cycle tracks on Queens Quay, Wellington, Sherbourne, Esplanade/Mill St.

    Return to office discussion

Experienced this first hand, I was always impressed by our productivity but I knew it wasn’t sustainable. It was stressful. I quit last summer when they began a 3 day RTO. The Toronto offices didn’t have enough space so you only got a permanent desk if you came in 5 days a week!

Curtain walls going up on 11. Makes sense to follow 10, they are the most tucked away from construction now. From NW:

Slight comprehension error – he said above ground transit is coming in at a reasonable cost. The only relevant figures to use for this are from Finch LRT project since its cost represents an entirely above ground system. $2.5B, plus any unannounced overrun, got us 10km of track, a fleet and...

The platforms will span over Broadview Ave extension, not Eastern. This is the only accessible spot for interesting East Harbour photography as of now.
