    Transit Fantasy Maps

Actually, the Yonge streetcar went as far north as Glen Echo/Yonge Boulevard, back when it was still the North York border. North of that your comment holds, though, as it does for Sheppard. Far as I'm concerned it should've been LRT from the start - for the amount spent on the current stubway...

    Toronto Toronto | 335 Yonge | 55.2m | 16s | Lalani | Zeidler

Unsurprisingly, it's not getting better. I was down there around 5:30 taking pictures - around that time another part of the brick facade collapsed, but thankfully not much. Even so - I didn't think you could get so much dust out of a building.

Transit expansion for a better Toronto! (Rally/Protest idea)

I'd be interested in this - it's absolutely necessary. I've been trying to beat the drum myself, but fringe mayoral candidates don't tend to get too much attention.

Scott Pilgrim film takes on Toronto!

The first trailer is out. http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/universal/scottpilgrimvstheworld/ This is going to be AWESOME.

    TTC: Fare hike, no cuts

I think this is because the TTC wants to establish long-term transit loyalty in university riders. Not all of them are from Toronto - some may never have relied on transit before. If the TTC gets them on cheap, and they stay in the city, the theory goes that they'll continue relying on the TTC...

    Toronto Toronto | Spadina Subway Extension Emergency Exits | ?m | 1s | TTC | IBI Group

That'd be 99 Arrow Rd, and I don't think so; it looks like its primary reason for being is to provide service to the Arrow Road Garage. It's not even the only bus route that doesn't link to the subway anymore, either - 171 Mt Dennis serves Mount Dennis Garage, and just runs around in the same...

    Peterborough Commuter Rail

As someone who travels from Toronto to Barrie every now and again, I'd say this is because GO service is superior to Greyhound in every metric I care about, including price. Barrie South GO isn't that far off the beaten trail - and $10.70 for a GO ticket, versus $23.30 for Greyhound's cheapest...

    Dufferin Street: Eliminating the jog

I can't wait until this project is finished and Dufferin is continuous. It's going to make an incredible difference for Caribana and the Ex in 2010, considering that Dufferin is the primary western artery for both those events. Today around 3:30 PM, Dufferin was heavy from south of Davenport and...

    City Workers Strike 2009

At least entertaining graffiti's starting to come out of it. Sometime during the weekend, I think - definitely between Friday afternoon and Monday afternoon - this Watchmen-inspired message ("Who Watches the Garbage Men?") appeared on the south side of 1116 King West. All we need now is...

    VIA Strike

It'd figure that this would happen two weeks before the first time I use VIA in eighteen years. Nevertheless, though, I can't understand what VIA management's thinking - it's not as if they can stay solvent for long with none of their trains running.

Scott Pilgrim film takes on Toronto!

Who knew Raccoon City was so dedicated to the preservation of its historic streetcar system?

Scott Pilgrim film takes on Toronto!

I think I may have seen a bit of filming for Scott Pilgrim earlier today. Walking east along Dundas East, CLRV 4198 was going west with a CHARTERED rollsign. It seemed pretty much empty except for the back cluster of seats. There were a few guys there, with one holding a large microphone...

Best place to view Toronto's skyline?

The best restaurant view I can think of is from 360 - that's pretty unconventional, though. In terms of sheer skyline, the best places I know tend to be ones that aren't dominated by restaurants; for that I'd suggest either the Islands or Gzowski Park. I think there are a few snack-type places...

Star: Next issue for TTC: How to tell who's paid

Maybe, but there's a difference between having a pass and skateboarding up through the entrances that are signed "NO ENTRY - $500 FINE" and never actually having to pass through a turnstile.

Star: Next issue for TTC: How to tell who's paid

The problem still exists outside Transit City, too - maybe they should put automatic gates at the entrances and exits of the bus boarding areas. I was waiting for the 84 at Sheppard-Yonge yesterday and some kid skateboards up through the bus entrance and hops into the station like it was the...

Montreal Woman Cuffed for not Holding Escalator Handrail

I don't care if they try to extract fines out of me; a story like this isn't going to make me hold a handrail in a subway station. One, I'm not a toddler or an elderly person who would understandably need help with balance, and two, there's no way I'm touching that. How am I supposed to know...

Star: Next issue for TTC: How to tell who's paid

Depending on how the actual Transit City stops are designed, would it be feasible to make them, essentially, micro-stations? Meaning that you would have to pay to get inside the stop, probably through the kind of automated token/Metropass system that exists at subway stations already, and so...

    What's your Walk Score?

My place in Parkdale gives me 89 out of 100; I'll agree with that. I get around well here with shoe leather, and that's what I love about living here. The house in the 'burbs I grew up in scores 40 out of 100, which I personally think is far too charitable. I don't think a Mac's convenience...

Globe: Second NHL Team for Toronto?

    Dufferin Street: Eliminating the jog

Just wanted to provide a brief photographic update on the state of work on the jog - it looks like they've moved to ground level, as well. I took this on Sunday morning from the southside streetcar stop, and it looks like they're using a welding torch or something - that spot of light in the...
