What is efficiency ratio of llobby to ground floor of high-rise mixed use condo?

Hi all, I am not sure if this is the right place to post a question of this nature. I am touching up a feasibility assignment I did in my undergrad, one of the things that was missing was an ratio of lobby/common area to the entire ground floor of a high-rise condo with retail at-grade. Is...

    my questions

i dont think the expropriation would be that expensive, it's not like it's 5-10 million per km of widening. If it weren't for bridges and overpasses, BRT would still much more cheaper than LRT. eglinton LRT makes sense in that it is a gateway from the airport to the city.

    my questions

cant they expropriate a bit more? I should say this right off the top. I dont mean to say that BRT should be applied to every line in Transit City, only the lowest volume lines. but yeah the air in Bogota are horrendous [higher altitude accentuate pollution]

    my questions

then i guess we should trust our overseers, who are infinitely wiser than us. eHealth was a success. the info presented to public should be a bit more compelling, what was the smoking gun rationale the province saw in the EA. theory is good and all but reality works a bit differently...

    my questions

no, im just saying it how it is. an EA shouldn't be about semantics, it should be about cold hard facts. If they're going to make an assertion they should back it up. Go talk to a councillor? Have you seen how mismanaged our city is? Besides yellowscarves don't listen to reason; how...

Sharon Yetman's Subway Safety Plan (Better barrier for subways 'an obsession')

suicidal people are going to find a way to kill themselves, you take one method away and they'll find another. Not the best way to prevent suicides.
  7. W

    my questions

read them, they're made to distort information. for example regarding assessment of BRT, they keep saying that 3000 people per hour will overload a standard bus of 50 people capacity, which will require 60 buses to service that line. this was part of their pitch for choosing LRT over BRT...

Sharon Yetman's Subway Safety Plan (Better barrier for subways 'an obsession')

i may agree on the busiest stations but not every station. If there's enough room, no people around and you happen to carelessly linger in that yellow zone then fall, it's your own fault. if we do go that extra mile we're legislating stupidity. and the only rail that is electrified is the...

    Rosedale: Should it be closed?

even if the residents don't use it much they won't appreciate a closure because of what it could do to their land values.

    my questions

    1. im curious about the province when it provides funding to transit projects. What kind of oversight to they play? Do they do their own studies as to how much the project will cost OR do they take the municipality transit authority's word on the matter? I know in america, the Feds leave...

Off-peak projection for Transit City LRTs

I haven't found too much info on off-peak ridership projections for the LRTs. All I see is projections for peak hours. Could that be the breaker for LRT, the lack of off-peak ridership? Anyone have source.

Where can I find comprehensive TTC ridership stats

navigating their website is a nightmare. I want to know about off-peak hours on subway, bus or streetcar routes; preferably monthly or yearly volumes. I found information from 2003 but suffice to say that number is outdated. anyone know where i can up-to-date stats?

Acceleration and stop signalling for Transit City

Im not sure how to search this on the forum and I dont want to have to read every post to find a reference so here comes a thread... Does anyone know the acceleration rate for this 42meter-long LRV will be? Will the LRV proceed during a green light or the special light they have on...

    Toronto Bike Share

ok i do not know the numbers for maintenance because I don't bike on regular basis. But if you do maintain it well yourself (lube, cleaning out guck, rust protect), it should last you a while. granted outside the core, but inside the core why would you need to bike to your destination when...

    Toronto Bike Share

during field trip in Montreal I got to try them out. They're pretty rigid and hard to steer somewhat. On that note I think they're perfect for tourists but for residents why would they pay $5 a hour or $100 per year subscription when they can get a bike at Canadian tire at $200. And it will...

Designating a 401 lane as BRT lane...

yeah i was thinking long distance service akin to GO on 401, not local service because what would be the point of that? if the TTC wants to widen local roads for LRT then why not widen for BRT like in Bogota or Curitiba, Brazil? It saves putting in the tracks, lines. I guess what im...

Designating a 401 lane as BRT lane...

the thing ive noticed with curitba and bogota is not only do they have the balls to do something but the actually know what works for the city and what is realistic, the latter of which our politicians lack. i think they're way too nostalgic of the old toronto and its streetcars. one...

Designating a 401 lane as BRT lane...

yeah arent they doing that in Markham now with the YRT on highway 407? also to answer anyone who says that buses are slow to load people on: bus stations where you pay to enter, then when the bus comes you simply hop on. You could also look into printing transfers for quick loading.

Designating a 401 lane as BRT lane...

(sorry if this is repost) im thinking of using that in my paper to argue against the sheppard, don and finch LRTs. I figure if the Ontario government is willing to shell out "x" billions for some lofty goal of communal travel, it should be a breeze to designate a lane of highways as...

Markham Tour Part 5: New Urbanism in Cornell

wasnt cornell doomed when it didnt have any close, accessible employment lands? Why walk when you have to drive to work? might as well do your errands in car.
