It has been a campground since the Brigadoon restaurant burned down, 20+ years ago. This past weekend there was festivities in honour of it being named Canada's first National Urban Park.

When I was in Cub Scouts around 1975, we planted trees on one of the slopes, but I can't remember which one, now. I seem to recall it was right above one of the bunkers built into the slope.

Or maybe you mean the buildings pictured in the post just above your question, in which case that is the old armoury facing Universoty but seen from the east side and slightly south of it, so roughly where the Ontario court house is now, behing Osgoode Hall. And the second picture shows the old...

Filter-wise, I meant the kind of fryer that filters the oil into the holding tank below. Then all of the parts (except element) just drop in the dishwasher. You're right about the air, though. I bought a new range hood and vented it directly through the wall to the outside. Certainly helps...

It's not so bad. I've made it at home a few times lately and it goes together quite quickly. Pick up a couple fillets of whatever you like. Whisk together a cup or so of flour, a pinch of baking powder and a bottle of beer. A quick dip in the batter and gently lay the fillet in the hot oil...

Birchmount is West of this intersection, but I know what you mean. My parents met at WCCI, too, and I attended General Crerar P.S. behind it. Spent a lot of time at that plaza in the 70s, shopping at Steinberg's, pizza at Pizza Nova (store #1).

A "Now" would be interesting, if the location could be ascertained.

Very nice. If only his mom had some interior photos. I'd personally be interested in seeing the changes.

Wow, that's great confirmation. But he didn't run it under the Silver Lantern name? I'm not sure when it operated as that. In the 70s and 80s it was "The Chalet" steak house. I presumed the Silver Lantern was just before that. If he did run it as Silver Lantern, and you were interested in...

Excellent. I wasn't able to find Whitby's archive. I've spent lots of time perusing www.pada.ca , the Pickering and Ajax archive.

You can't see it from the front (110 Dundas St. West). It's the grey building with the arch at http://goo.gl/maps/yGa8 You can see the vertical red sign over the parking lot at http://goo.gl/maps/kRME Hopefully these short google URLs give the proper orientation for the street view.

Sounds good. A while ago I did some research on a few of the buildings in Whitby, and the name Quan is ringing a bell.

Might it have been The Silver Lantern? If so, the signage has changed several times but there is still an old Silver Lantern sign in an out of the way spot.

Looks like a bit of the wall immediately south of that gate is still standing. Hope this street view works
