I'm happy to see some new towers downtown (which doesn't happen often anymore) but this and the one on Metcalfe are so... boring and uninspired. Really? That's the best we can do?

Photo taken Sunday. This is disappearing faster than I thought it would.

Here is a render from an OBJ article about the new building. It is planned at 26 floors and 415 units.

I was a little confused by this rendering. It's actually not O'Connor, it's the same company's scheme to replace 77 Metcalfe, viewed across the revamped east end of World Exchange Plaza. In other words, a second viable highrise they want to demolish.

Ahh, I mixed up 77 Metcalfe and 110 O'Connor.

Here's the other render:

Bittersweet for me. I kind of liked that one. More upset about the Commonwealth building though.

Wonder when we'll get the DevApp for this one, considering we got the one for their Metcalfe project first, which is further behind.

The planning document, which has some tech problem making it slow to examine, admits that the proposal does not comply with guidelines on the size of the floorplate or separation between towers. In other words, please let us jam a big tower on our lot right up against the big tower someone else wants to build next door, so the residents can all have no views and see in each other's windows. I'm sure the city will approve it anyway. If only there were some way of making two adjacent and conflicting proposals work together rather against each other. I'm sure that, examined as a whole, there is a way of sensibly developing this third of a block. But I have no expectation that's even been considered.

Unit Count: 391

Retail Space: 663 m3

Description: The building has a footprint of 1494m2 and is 25 storeys in height including 391residential units, commercial premises on the ground floor and 102 underground parking spaces.

Among the largest and most dominant towers in the city, is nestled 110 O Connor with its 25 floors on one of the busiest arteries in the city. The concepts articulated in three floating masses and retains the precious brutalist language of the sector with a reinterpretation of historic styles present on its neighboring buildings. The contemporary design of the tower on top preserves the integrity of the architecture without dominating the 6-storeypodium. The transparent tower rises above and is made out of curtain wall so as to be read in second plane. The concept is driven by a desire to harmonize with the brutalist facades in the immediate context. The podium is distinguish by its size and by its grid like facade with a tectonic play in fiber cement.

They call it a 25 storey building, but what they call the "roof" has units and amenity space, so calling this one 26 floors.

Not a huge fan of the bulky podium (would have preferred grand, taller, 2-story ground floors that you see in other residential projects in Toronto or whatnot) but overall looks like a solid design. Reminds me of a mix of Soho Italia and Rideau Registry building. The amount of glass and the black should look nice (if well done) and be a nice contrast to the office towers surrounding it.
