I love the grainy colour shots of this decade in Toronto - some photos from Flickr:

Thanks a lot for posting these, Mike. They're fantastic!

Thanks Mike. That last pic of the old subway car - as kids we used to walk between the cars - they propped open the doors on hot days. Sliding windows for fresh air too. What a noise racket inside those things.:) especially southbound into Union around the curve.

Awesome, thank you!

I've always been fascinated with 1970s Toronto and often wish it were as accessible as NYC in that era, though not as a result of having gone through what they did that decade of course.

These shots have a completely different charm to them than most of the earlier ones, but a charm nevertheless.

Thanks for posting!

Fabulous photos!!

Does anyone have any Yonge Street strip photos or know where to find them from the 70's & 80's? I've searched Flicker etc., with very limited results.

Thanks!

I see Zanzibar... so the street north of Gould.. whatever it is...

Truly fascinating though... Toronto positively felt like a provincial centre instead of this global city it is today.

these two threads are amazing, its really interesting to see how the city has progressed,, thanks for posting

does anyone know what the cross street is here...yonge & ??

It's Yonge & Gerrard. The Elephant & Castle building is just out of frame on the far right next to New Empire.

And in some cases regressed. Look at how well-maintained the trackbed is in that shot of Rosedale station, and compare it to the trash-strewn, weed-infested disgrace it is now. Would have been nice to maintain that pride of appearance these past thirty years.
