Yeah, I'm now undecided between Mitzie and Ana. I think they would both do a good job.
I'm voting Ana Bailao. My second choice is Mitzie Hunter. I think Ana would be wonderful for this term.

Could either of you cite any platform commitments by either of the above that you found compelling?

Thus far, I find only Matlow coming out with a material amount of hard policy which one may like or dislike, but at least there's some there, there.

While I like all of Ana Bailao's plan, I specifically like her food security plan (https://anabailao.ca/latest-news/ana-bailão-announces-food-security-plan), her healthy seniors plan (https://anabailao.ca/platform) and her support to move the Ontario Science Centre to the Ontario Place so more housing can be built (https://anabailao.ca/latest-news/ana-bailão-supports-smart-solution-for-ontario-place).

Interesting, I dislike the food security policy for a few reasons.

1) It does nothing to address the underlying issue which is that people have insufficient funds to buy food, due to anemic OW/ODSP payments, far too low minimum wage, and the exorbitant cost of housing. The City has limited ability to affect
these, though it does have some, and there is nothing here for that.

2) The sums it provides are so small, and the other commitments so vague as to make a negligible difference.

The Healthy Seniors program is not without merit; But is problematic from the point of view that it makes use of 600 'vaccine ambassadors' paid for by the province without it being clear that this program will even remain funded, nor that provincial permission for modifying their duties will be given.

Its add-ons are also questionable to me in terms of feasibility for the City; and it finishes with 'food hampers' for the most needy, which again fails to tackle the question of why people need food given to them (lack of money).

Overall, I find these policies, much like the rest of her platform, exceedingly thin, not particularly constructive, and unlikely to be effective.

On Mitzi..........

Has she thrown in the towel?

I went to look at her website to see if there was any substantive platform commitments of which I was unaware.

She doesn't have a section labelled 'platform' you have to dig for 'news'; there's a promise of a full website coming soon........

When you get to the news section, there's nothing updated since May 4th, some 12 days ago.

Despite this, a few polls have Hunter neck-and-neck with Bradford and Bailao. She seems to be getting a lot of CP24 coverage.

I think this speaks to the incredible influence in the media of who they choose to anoint as coverage-worthy.

I want to be clear, that this is not always the product of intentional bias (though it certainly can be); but is sometimes a fact of life that with 100+ candidates for mayor they will not all get equal air time, and there is
an element of subjectivity in deciding who is a sufficiently credible contender to merit said time.

11 herbs and spices he may have, but he was chief of police for years and did nothing to clear Allan Gardens.
He's the Bruce McArthur candidate.

And if one wonders why…
