Carney surprised me by making an appearance on The Daily Show tonight, in interview with Jon Stewart. I was impressed by how engaging he is as a communicator. I can see why PP is worried about him.

He did better than most would expect; but he was also served up some very generous softball, by a very sympathetic host, and audience, which helps immensely.

His French aside, Carney has the problem of being a very overt member of the establishment, not just a Central banker, but ex of Goldman Sachs, Harvard and Oxford educated, and currently carrying the can for the very wealthy Bronfman family overseeing Brookfield Asset Management as Chair of their Board.

I mentioned in an earlier comment the list of voters formerly being posted on telephone poles. They compiled the list by sending enumerators door to door every time an election was called. I recall someone I knew at the time (probably 1988 or 1993 election) being annoyed at not being able to vote. He had moved into a large apartment building complex that had two towers. After waiting and not seeing a card left in his (or other apartments on his floor) door, he called to find out what to do, only to be dismissively told he couldn't vote and it was his fault because he should have called earlier and was one day too late to register.

He asked other people in his building, and it seemed no one living in his tower had enumerators show up, but those in the other tower (the one closer to the main entrance for the complex) had. I'm a little skeptical that they could have somehow missed an entire tower and not noticed how few people at that address were on the list compared to presumably hundreds for the other tower. It might be interesting to check if that's what happened if/when the archived voters lists eventually get displayed on genealogy websites, where they apparently already have up to 1980 for these in Canada.

Very interesting. Thanks for sharing.

Karina Gould is in..............

Surprise....

Christy Clark is out.

Surprised that Gould is running considering the stiff competition. Maybe building her profile for another run 5-10 years from now?

That may work to his advantage if PP starts talking out of his a** and taking a page from the GOP Playbook.

If he can play the polished, educated professional rather than bordering on extreme views he may be seen as a viable alternative.

I expected him to come off more wonkish and serious. That's what I recall of him from during his tenure as BoC Governor.

Given that the other expected major contender is Freeland, who will also come off as an elite insider, I'm not sure Carney is at a disadvantage in the LPC race on that front.

Honestly, I have to wonder if he pulled some strings to get the Daily Show slot. I'm not sure he's a 'big get' for the show.

He (or his team) did..........for sure.
