If your point is that there was a democracy before the Charter existed, sure, no one would argue against that. But if the Charter expressly allowed legislatures to override democratic rights by use of the notwithstanding clause, then we'd be in big, big trouble.

If the new division of ridings isn't Calgary (29 seats), Edmonton (22 seats), Grande Prairie/Red Deer/Lethbridge/Medicine Hat (6 seats), rural Alberta (34 seats), then the whole process is unjust.

She's got some chutzpah talking about federal overreach when they overreach into municipal affairs on the regular. Classic projection. I wish I shared some of the hope that the public will remember all this next election but I fear Alberta will do what it always does

While that might be true emotionally, there is a vast difference between federal and provincial relationships and provincial and municipal relationships. Municipalities are "creatures of their respective provinces" in that they exist solely under provincial legislation and control. How that control is exercised is too often egregious in Alberta and hopefully that will be remembered at the next election but there are so many other areas where Alberta's behaviour has been egregious it's simply not likely to stand out.

Edmonton proper would have 22 seats. The metro areas would have about 8-10. About six for Metro Calgary..

Also the use of the term "Removal of provincial rights" when it is clearly a response to the province removing people's rights. You can't make this stuff up.

Yes, an interesting choice of words - "provincial rights". So I feel its not about peoples rights (we are both Federal and Provincial residents) for Smith, as much as is about her powers.
