With the current questions and alleged corruption around Smith and UCP's handling of Healthcare - it sure seems like the government is wasting a lot of taxpayer money.
For instance, for contracts to private clinics, it is believed there is a set rate for patients to stay two nights for recovery, even though only 11 per cent stay one night, and 89 per cent go home the day of surgery. If the government is paying private clinics two nights regardless, that is a huge and wasteful payout to private clinics.
“I know that’s true, but I can’t prove it because all the contracts for these clinics have the actual money figures redacted," says Dr. Paul Parks, former head of the Alberta Medical Association. (From current Don Braid column in Herald)
And as we know, this government is making it harder and harder for info to be obtained.
