Give it a year. They always stay relatively controversy-avoidant when the election gets near, and the average voter forgets about the headlines that upset them.

I still wish the NDP had a better roster of policy priorities. They haven't had a majority since 2015 and most people have no idea what they could expect from Nenshi as premier.

On a related note, here are all votes cast, by party, since 1905. Even after the Conservative-Wildrose merge, the elections tend to be pretty close.

On that note, few are also going to care about policies until the election gets near. Parties that put too much out early either find their policies become the target of criticism or stolen by their opponents.

IMO, whatever the quality of the opposition, it in the end is generally governments that defeat themselves or convince voters they are not so bad.
 
Smith announced a plan to "eliminate the bureaucratic vortex" of Alberta hospitals, by "changing to a hospital-based leadership structure. On-site leadership teams will be responsible for hiring staff, managing resources and solving problems to effectively serve their patients and communities."

Unrelated, but I have never seen her wearing more makeup than during this announcement. Probably G7 related.

Since she just announced that all GoA communications will fall directly under her purview, you can rest assured that all messaging on this matter will be nothing but glowing, specifically as it pertains to the UCP, and Smith's unwavering infallibilty.

Well, perhaps unlike other things, she wouldn't want communications to fall into a bureaucratic vortex, it is too politically important so no four ministers for that!

I never thought we'd see these results. I guess the GoA is done pursuing that in favour of fearmongering seperation.

There would have been some advantages on paper (because the CPP active management strategy is generally not the best), but based on the "performance" or lack thereof of AIMCo, having the GoA administer pensions would have been yet another bureaucratic disaster.

We have the 6th best pension plan in the WORLD. The World. The CPP is just fine.

And with Carney, an econmost involved now, I can't foresee it getting worse.

Well with the previous PM, who became a lightning rod for so much discontent, gone perhaps the Alberta government has now finally realized the pension battle is not worth them fighting.

Kind of wild that >10% of the population in Ellerslie voted for a party other than the NDP or UCP.
