Apparently, Alberta was calling under the UCP with Kenney and even Smith, but when people answered now she is upset. Also while there were several years of high immigration in the past, it has now been dramatically reduced by the current Federal government, so this is really even no longer even necessary. I feel she is just trying to create a MAGA populist anti immigrant backlash for her own political benefit.
And it's working. I saw a post on LinkedIn about how the $1B given to "illegals" for healthcare could have paid for 2.4 million square feet of hospital space. Lots of likes and supportive comments, and no one daring to question the figures. Sure. Hospital space more than 4.5x the size of the Grey Nuns for $1B. Wasn't the South Edmonton hospital pegged at over $5B a couple of years ago?

Well if a new hospital could be built here in Edmonton for $1 billion, the UCP should get right on it and build it now. I believe the one they cancelled back years ago was way more than that.

Our shortage of hospital space here is not due to recent immigrants, but that no new hospitals have been built in this city for around 40 years and the UCP cancelling the proposed South West Edmonton one has made this situation even worse.

The new St. Paul’s hospital in Vancouver will have about 550 beds and is currently budgeted at a little over $2 Billion. That doesn’t include the costs of anything other than the hospital in the overall “health district campus” it’s being built in. I don’t think that includes the $850 million they’ll get for selling their old site downtown.

The new 950 bed hospital being built in Mississauga is currently budgeted at approximately $14 billion.

Not much for 1 Billion now, Prince George hospital size maybe.

Toronto Western Hospital Patient Tower 82 bed is 1.1 billion.

Heck of a deal on the Vancouver hospital! Maybe some of this was built or contracted for before construction costs increased a lot. Here is a 2024 article that refers to an estimated $5 billion cost for the South West Edmonton one. Not sure if this is accurate, but this seems more in line with the Mississauga one which I assume is also probably larger.

No new health care spending but move to more private delivery services. Stollery will get funding only for the next phase of planning. No construction money though.

Education we have heard but they will reiterate 11-20 new schools over the next 2 years.

Completion of twinning highway 11 and 3. No new transportation funding.

Reduce Government staff by 20% over the next 2 years.

It's out! Here we go....

Like the Feds I imagine this'll be done through attrition and early retirements.

The deficit is annoyingly high for sure, looks like for 2026/27 they are using a average WTI price of $60.50 as their assumption. If I was wagering I think we might see a higher average than that once the books are closed.

No new hospitals or beds for at least 5 years. even if they start now. We are so fucked.

Nait Advanced skills will get started this year. Planning is pretty much done.
Yet $74M to Cardston's hospital???? WTF???!!! Ever been to Cardston? They do NOT need a new hospital.....yet we are dying in the waiting rooms......

Btw, never heard of Cardston getting a new hospital - EVER! Where did this come from? Is one her minions representing that shit hole?

I guess YEG'ers can always drive to Red Deer to visit their upcoming palatial new hospital.....

For some reason, this is bugging me the most......$279M to twin the highway to Rocky Fucking Mountain House?

Did the province discontinue low income transit pass funding? Mayor Knack/City of Edmonton's Wishlist wanted $6M. Can't find anything about LITP (Low Income Transit Pass) in budget docs.
