I also switched from Arc card to Google Pay since the open payment was added, it's been working great. You can even set it so you don't need to unlock your phone for "transit" payments, which it recognizes the Arc readers as. I assume Apply Pay has this option as well.Took the bus the other day, I haven't used my arc card in a while so I wasn't sure how much I had on it (didn't bother checking). Decided to tap using apple pay and it worked really smoothly and was super convenient. I might go back to the arc card if I start taking transit regularly again, but tapping my phone is kinda game-changing for casual use.
I have a similar setup with my smartwatch where I don't have to unlock it to tap on an Arc reader. It feels very futuristic and slick! I've even had some operators comment on it lolI also switched from Arc card to Google Pay since the open payment was added, it's been working great. I noticed the same. I'm getting 2% cashback vs. just 1% with the old Arc card.I have a similar setup with my smartwatch where I don't have to unlock it to tap on an Arc reader. It feels very futuristic and slick! I've even had some operators comment on it lol
Also, depending on your credit card, you may find that you get more cashback tapping your card/phone/smartwatch instead of using that same card to load money on your Arc account. I get 3% cashback when I tap vs. 1% when I use the same card to add funds to my Arc account. Just a quirk of the system I guess...
