So can we count on some good’ old fashioned soccer riots when this team plays?

some good’ old fashioned soccer riots

After paying good money to watch a scoreless draw for the fifth consecutive game!

Nice pics Jarrek- especially the latter. If that is the case in TO I will be at every game.

Good evening:

The intelligence is that MLSEL is considering the following team names for the Toronto MLS franchise:

An application for the trademark on that name was filed with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office on March 16, 2006 by Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP on behalf of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment. The name was also registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on March 28, 2006 by Alan Blum on behalf of Major League Soccer.

Coinciding applications for the names Toronto FC and Toronto Northmen were filed with the CIPO, but not apparently as of yet registered with the USPTO.

What is interesting also is that "Toronto Northmen " was a name originally owned by Larry Tanenbaum's PALESTRA GROUP LIMITED in '92-93, and abandoned toward the end of the decade according to CIPO. You may remember that it was the PALESTRA GROUP who were in the running for Toronto's NBA franchise, only to lose out to Bitove.

In any event, Inter Milan...Inter Toronto.....well, I'm not wild about the name, but it from a purist perspective it's do-able. Toronto Northmen awfully close to Toronto Norsemen, bringing immediately into mind my contact's reaction when he heard the suggestion.

If MLSEL goes with NORTHMEN, then for sure the fan club will go with "Norsemen" and adopt our friend's logo. Let's face it, MLSEL is big on merchandizing, and they would make far more geld with "Northmen" and the logo possibilities than the rather bland "Inter".

From the MMTO.com sports Forum

"Northmen" from a city that lies way below the 49th parallel, south of Vancouver, south of Wahington State for that matter? Did anyone wear winter boots in Toronto this year?

How about Moderately Temperate Men then? Does that fit your critieria?

something more inclusive like ''Toronto Northpersons''
now everybody will be happy.

No wonder music groups have a tough time coming up with band names they won't regret.
