Edmonton really needs to step it up. It's getting a bit ridiculous here how little progress has been made - in fact, we have arguably moved backwards with the removal of some bike sharrows in a couple of areas.

Removing sharrows for bike lanes might be good, but removing them for cars is not so good.

@bennessb Exactly. Sharrows are terrible, but removing them without any plan to replace them with better cycling infrastructure is completely backward. I had very high hopes for Edmonton's current council, and they have been working to improve the underlying city government structure that has been holding back a lot of progress, but even understanding that I'm beginning to get quite impatient with the lack of progress in areas like this.

@Daveography Things can change quickly. I was frustrated at how slow things were moving here in Calgary and it seemed like cycling was going nowhere until just recently.

Exactly. Calgary was really sucking for bike infrastructure until only just recently, and even then there is still work to be done. The cycle tracks have been a real success so far and I do give the city hall and mayor credit for pushing them, but we must keep the foot on the pedal - pun intended. Maybe the success of the cycle tracks can be used as an example in Edmonton for those arguing for more bike infrastructure.

That's cool! I didn't know anybody outside of Calgary was paying attention to them. Makes me want to get on the bike and cruise some of them today
