Although some nuances make it slightly different than something like a hospital, continuing care falls under the umbrella of healthcare. Healthcare is known for its extreme complexity relative to other building types, due mostly to the quantity of mechanical and electrical systems.
This means extensive pre-construction site prep for utility access. Additionally, these structures basically have to be done in cast-in-place concrete due to specific AHS guidelines, which adds time. The floor plates are also massive and must be done in stages; they can't just crank out a level a week like in residential because organizing that much formwork and that many trucks would be a nightmare. Also, rebar.
Once structural is done we'll quickly see cladding, and then there will be lots of time for mechanical, electrical, and interior.
