A hotel site doesn't need any subsidies, Smith just hinted that they may be willing to subsidize one to get something going. So any hotel project that was in the works would have immediately gone on hold if there was the potential for free money from the province. No idea if anything was in the works, just think that's an irresponsible statement from a supposedly conservative government...
While I agree with what you're saying that she didn't need to say that, I think a little too much is being placed on 1 comment. Clearly no subsidy has happened so far and I don't think a private developer is going to hold out for years based on 1 comment of a subsidy if the hotel makes sense financially.

  • 20 concessions in the main concourse. 4 grab and go's, 2 sponsor bars, 2 burgers and brew, 2 Pocket Dawgs, 2 malt & mini donuts, 1 full service bar, 1 Tandoor, 1 Korean corn dogs, 1 Lucky Cat Vietnamese subs, 1 pizza, 1 dumplings & buns, 1 bowls & salads, and 1 Angry Chicken. One spot where there looks to be a concession in the food hall was left unmarked, so there may be 21 concessions total.

That one concession in the food hall is marked as smokehouse concession in the Stephenson Building floorplan

Looked at the DP again... That elevation change down to the southeast corner is pretty decent but there isn't much more than a couple steps down to that corner. Guess I'll have to see what they do, the curb work they did for 5A is only in asphalt.

Is that for all fill, or only from places that may have contamination?
Great question, I can't think of anything that was previously on this site that would really contaminate, so it must be all fill? The 2 things I can guess off the top of my head that would pollute are parking lots and roads (oil and fluids from cars as well as asphalt), not sure what would come from 100+ year old houses that would be a danger.

I'll play the stupid card, no experience with this matter...no question there is contamination given the age and past use, but obviously very different than creosote....is cleaning soil a fairly regular process?
