One Tower is officially the tallest kid on the block

Very exciting indeed. With this one and the other development at 12th and Macleod, it's a continuous tower zone from downtown to 17th Ave. Exciting to see, especially given that 15 years ago there was zero. More pedestrians, more demand for local services and more urban vibes are always welcome.

Of course, even with these developments the MacLeod couplet zone of density remains a successful - in that it exists and has been attracting continuous development for the past decade - yet bizarre phenomenon combining density, urban-ness, freeway-ish, mega-project tower duplicates and an absence of human scale anything. Throw in a few gas stations, vacant lots, shelters and weird flood/retail resistant walk-up steps on most of these tower projects and we've created a very strange "new" urban community.

Still, with more people comes more demands to address some of the gaps above. Vic Park's new master plan and the gradual but persistent erosion of auto-commuter-only prioritization by the entities making decisions ( e.g. Green Line, cycle tracks etc.) will help as the neighbourhood evolves further. All this density really makes me wish that the original 1st Street SE cycle-track proposal went through. What a connection that could have been to all these developments while taming some of the least desirable characteristics of the couplets.

Great to see this one rise!

With a short podium, they got to the tower portion quickly. The floor plates are pretty basic, I'm guessing a floor a week now.

Yeah it should start going really quick now as long as the cold doesn't slow them down too much.

Would be awesome if they could get a decent pub or lounge in there, the area is a bit of a black hole for nightlife currently.

Wondering if the area could be reconfigured to be more pedestrian oriented :
-bury LRT between Cemetery Hill and the CP tunnel, with one or two underground stations
-extend 17th Ave into Stampede Grounds
-change Macleod to be 2 way, 5 lanes partly on top of buried LRT line with the center lane operating contra-flow
-repurpose 2nd street to be two way with on street parking, and wide sidewalks terminating at the Repsol Center (no longer a conduit for Macleod southbound)
