You are correct but that is still $55 for two people. My point stands people are not prepared to pay a premium fare in TO and they certainly won’t in Edmonton.
Ok, but it’s not that anymore. It’s $12. Or $24 for 2. Which is cheaper than an uber for that trip. And the Canada line is $9 when zone pricing is on.

Neither are cost prohibitive compared to alternatives. I don’t think anyone is suggesting $30 for an Edmonton train. But $10-15 is very reasonable.

Strathcona and downtown should both have stops in my opinion. It’s very common to see two main stations in other parts of the world. And it would hardly affect travel times between Edmonton and Calgary as the train would not be getting up to speed anyways until it’s out of the city limits.

I imagine a main central station at 109 street and Jasper, where CP used to have their station. Then a Strathcona station just south of Whyte Ave in CPKC’s South Edmonton yard. The tracks between the two stations would be shared by many types of services with different stopping patterns. Imagine if you had HSR, regional, and local trains all making stops at the two stations effectively giving you departures every 5-10 minutes between them. This type of model is used all over Europe and is very effective. Not only does it increase the catchment area for intercity travel, but it also facilitates mass transit levels of connectivity between Downtown and Strathcona.
This is indeed what I was suggesting. Thank you for explaining it well.

Yes, we do not need to make this far more complicated than it is. There is already undeveloped and underdeveloped land by 109 Street south of Jasper Ave, it is already very close to an existing LRT station and there is already an old rail right of way between Old Strathcona and the downtown location.

If a train terminal is to be built in this area I do believe that it is a must that there is a direct link to the LRT system. Either there is a link to the Government Center Station or a link to the Corona station somehow.

I think it's more likely that Government Centre Station would be rebuilt as a combined LRT & HSR station instead. Plenty of space available there for this

I feel it could be easier and better to have separate stations basically next to each other and mostly leave the existing LRT station as is, but either way there is lot of space around here.

I mean, there's already a pedway under 109 Street between the station and the legislature. Can a rail station simply connect to that?

Definitely I think that a high-speed rail station/platform should be as connected as possible to the LRT system. Also though if it's at all possible this would be the time to find a way to have the current Via rail train also have a platform at this same station. I believe that I should be able to hop on a c train in Calgary to a high-speed rail train to Edmonton and from that point either hop on VIA Rail to Vancouver or a point east of Edmonton or hop on the LRT and get to a destination in Edmonton.

Ideally, but as a layman it seems exceedingly difficult to get that rail past 104th ave, let alone to a combined station at govt centre. Maybe I'm not creative enough!

Yes, this would be good, but the problem is the VIA line no longer goes anywhere near downtown. With the eventual extension of the Metro line, perhaps the VIA station could be relocated to a future or existing LRT station, nearby which would help. IMO, it was a big mistake to locate VIA where it is, but it is very hard to fix some things, so this may be the best we can do.
