It's framing like this that has been happening throughout this pandemic that is maddening. "Virtual lockdown"? Even excluding the antivaxxers with fake documentation and the businesses not complying, the "virtual lockdown" allows the unvaccinated to access (unless the business itself has implemented requirements beyond what the government requires):
  • Child care settings
  • Events in private dwellings
  • Retail and shopping malls
  • Libraries
  • Workers and employees in/on a worksite for the purposes of their employment
  • Schools (Kindergarten to Grade 12)
  • School curriculum-based activities
  • Accommodations (hotels, motels)
  • Places of Worship – for faith services
  • Mutual support groups
  • Health services
  • Personal services
  • Wellness services
  • Youth physical activity, performance activity and recreational activity, where all participants are under the age of 18
  • Public transit
  • Jury selection
  • Election purposes and other related activities
  • First responders attending for the purposes of responding to an emergency situation
  • Outdoor dining only with a maximum of 6 people per table
  • Casinos, Bingo Halls, VLT Lounges
  • Bowling, racing entertainment, arcades, billiards halls, other similar entertainment
  • Museums, art galleries
  • Movie theatres
  • Indoor one-on-one training, solo and outdoor fitness activities
  • Weddings and funeral services; outdoor weddings and funeral receptions with up to 200 people
  • Recreation facilities for physical activity, performance activity or recreational activity
  • Conferences, meeting spaces, halls, and rented space (excluding dwelling units)
  • Publicly-funded post secondary institutions, including cafeterias and residence common areas (PSIs will fall under a separate and sector-specific exemption)
I was talking a while back with a former classmate who was working overseas last year. The lockdown there meant the only time they could leave their apartment was to go grocery shopping, for which they had to have a 30 minute time block reserved, under police enforcement. Calling both of these things lockdowns is like calling both Brookfield Place and a two story townhouse "skyscrapers".

I'm not a rocket scientist by any means, but it doesn't take a rocket science to see where we are going. Def will be a spike after Christmas.
Kenny is a textbook definition of an ideologue. Willfully ignoring anything that doesn't agree with his preconceived idea of what a political leader should do - even if that means ignoring logic. He was never educated in critical thinking, he was kicked out of college in his first year for being anti-abortion at a religious college (imagine what that takes). He's been a career politician ever since.

The speed of Omicron's spread took me a little while to actually comprehend; I feel like I'm just so desensitized at this point. Here's what really made it click for me: Omicron was introduced into Ontario on Nov 22. Three and half weeks later, it now makes up >80% of all new cases [ Source: Public Health Ontario, Ontario Covid-19 Dashboard ].

This variant spreads insanely quickly. 7.7x faster than Delta, which was already 50% faster than Alpha, which was 50% faster than the Original. Even if it is "mild,' which it isn't, the volume of cases alone are enough to cripple the health care system. Especially considering how effectively it spreads to people without a 3rd dose.

I mean there will probably be a spike, but let's be real, no one was following the household gathering rules in the first place. I doubt them tweeking that rule will result in more cases than would have otherwise happened.
Agreed. Vaccination levels will be the story of the next outbreak. So far the numbers are showing that ICU cases and deaths are largely disproportionate to the unvaccinated. Those are the people who will need to worry about Omicron, as its super high level of contagiousness and timing of Christmas is going to make it kind of a perfect storm and will be very dangerous for those who aren't vaccinated. I'm vaccinated, and so is everyone in my family, so I'm not losing sleep over it right now, but still very concerning.

I've noticed the numbers skyrocketing in Quebec and Ontario, and even BC. This virus really spreads incredibly fast.

Yeah, Quebec and Ontario have exploded, like increased 5 fold in a week! Nova Scotia and PEI who have had COVID under control are also skyrocketing.
Here in redneck central Alberta we’ll likely be into the thousands of daily new cases in a week or so.
