dutch style Raised crosswalks? trying to remember another location that has those in Toronto?

Raised crosswalks were installed at Danforth and Luttrell and three more will be added when Danforth is re-done from Main to VP in the next year. (starting fall).

The side streets that will be done are, Barrington, Eldon , and Thyra.

They were also done on the previous Kipling project going north to Steeles.

The Cycling Report just passed Ctte, with the following Amendments:

At IEC Saxe asked what the city can do to speed up new installs and upgrade existing in light of the city not keeping up with small steps and Jacquelyn Hayward gave a stark and sober response,
"Quite frankly, at a time when there are different parameters about what different projects can be delivered, dictated by the provincial government, as well as capital budget pressures, and the cost of individual projects rising I don't think that speeding up will be possible unless there's a significant change to those things."

The Ontario St downgrade (cycle track to bike lane) was requested by Cllr Moise and Saxe made some fuss about how that makes no sense and why wasn't there rationale provided. It's only ~80 metres though so I dunno how much it actually matters

I can't imagine any cycling facilities being added to Broadview with Ford in power....

Possible.

Through Broadview north of Cosburn has cycling facilities, and it isn't all that high traffic at most times.

Adding facilities right at the Danforth approach (with streetcar tracks present) would be a real challenge though.

Edit to add:

There is no way to add cycling facilities at Danforth, beyond a sharrow, without the buildings on the west side coming down. There just isn't the room.

So I don't think a Broadview extension is super likely. Looking at where it may serve some utility, there would be an argument for taking it to Pottery/Mortimer. After that, it might feasible to consider contra-flow lanes on Browning/Fulton to make the E-W connection to Logan.

Cycling facilities on Cambridge to (beyond Sharrows) don't appear feasible to me unless you remove parking.

I don't understand the motion about Ontario Street..

It already exists: https://maps.app.goo.gl/qsduYWVNzAQBqwRf9?g_st=ac

What is the proposed change? It already appears to be more of a bike lane than a cycle truck with no barriers present.

Does Mosie want to shoehorn in separate right and left turn lanes at Carlton? Which would mean narrowing the bike lane to a point it can no longer be called a cycle track?

1. City Council authorize the change in bikeway designation on:
e. Ontario Street from Aberdeen Avenue to Carlton Street, to a contra-flow bike lane from a contra-flow cycle track.

My guess is that it was going to be upgraded to a cycle track as part of planned work from Carleton to Winchester which is on the 2025-2027 cycling program and so this "keeps" it as a bike lane. On INview that stretch of Ontario St has a sewer replacement and road resurfacing scheduled for Q3 2025 - Q3 2026

If it's staying the way it is on streetview then it's fine. It's good enough.

If it's made one way for cars surely it can fit a contra-flow bike lane, perhaps a contra-flow cycle track with some physical protection? It can have sharrows going the other way, and maybe some speed bumps to slow cars down?

All the precious parking can stay.

Here's what you have to work with:

That's 9.5m curb to curb, deduct 2.5M for the parking, you have 7M left.

A very minimal, sub-standard bike lanes is 1.5M (Toronto would generally require 1.8M)

Re: One-way. Nope.

If you look at the, very south limit of the street is one-way SB to Danforth, and for a variety of reasons, flipping to NB is not on.

IF you went all SB, you run into a variety of challenges, no left turn to Danforth makes it very problematic, further north you also have a major apartment building with parking.

Regarding Broadview, the most realistic way to extend the bikeway south of Cosburn is to bring it to Chester Hill which has a contraflow. You would then need to convert the westbound Danforth bike lane from Broadview to Cambridge to a bi-directional to allow southbound bike traffic to travel east.
