If I understand it correctly from this motion, Fletcher added Logan contra-flow bike lane back to the report and only Carlaw remains one way with sharrow ?
Only one block of Logan from Cosburn to Gowan would get a contraflow bike lane. This is to make Carlaw accessible from Cosburn.

Happy to see some modest cycling infrastructure proposed for the northern half of Toronto-Danforth, although Donlands/Greenwood remains a glaring hole in the network.

I'm a big proponent of Donlands. Its been pushed back so many times. The only real challenge there is the angle parking by the retail south of O'Connor (it needs to go) that will get push back.

Currently, its placeholdered for 2030.

But take that with a large grain of salt. I remember when it was programmed for 2019!

Here's what you have to work with:

That's 9.5m curb to curb, deduct 2.5M for the parking, you have 7M left.

A very minimal, sub-standard bike lanes is 1.5M (Toronto would generally require 1.8M)

Re: One-way. Nope.

If you look at the, very south limit of the street is one-way SB to Danforth, and for a variety of reasons, flipping to NB is not on.

IF you went all SB, you run into a variety of challenges, no left turn to Danforth makes it very problematic, further north you also have a major apartment building with parking.
I understand no cycling infrastructure will fit providing we keep the street two way for cars and keep all of the on street parking.

I guess I haven't put enough thought into the implications of making the street one way for cars.

Perhaps Fletcher will be gone by then, as she will fight tooth and nail for that angled parking probably 😂.

We can live in hope.

Of course, her predecessor in the north part of the ward, before Ford's messing about was Fragedakis...........

She now runs the Greektown BIA, who bumbled their public square re-do, by refusing to grow it into Carlaw. She wasn't much use then or now, either.

****

Just you wait til Fletcher hears about the cycle tracks on O'Connor......... LOL

this is news to me! is the plan to connect Woodbine and the St. Clair East cycling infrastructure I page asked about a few pages back?

That would be the hope, yes.

The bridge remains a very large unresolved issue.

dutch style Raised crosswalks? trying to remember another location that has those in Toronto?
I think the concept here needs work. Raised crosswalk in asphalt still reads as pedestrians entering car space, and not cars entering pedestrian space. Dutch style is more "continuous sidewalk". Raised asphalt humps is not necessarily best practice.

Then we have the hazardous monolithic sidewalk driveway ramps. Designed for the automobile to enter or egress driveways at a higher speed. Not good for the elderly, those with walkers, or those who have difficulty walking.

Used to be ramps in the gutter, which were better for pedestrians. Not so nice for autos, since they have go move slower. What's wrong with going slower?

If we still used bricks in the gutter, the rainwater could percolate into the ground, instead of forming puddles.

From my own anecdotal experience driving there, I feel like the car traffic could potentially get by okay with just one eastbound(ish) lane on the bridge. But I am no traffic engineer. And I am not sure if using one traffic lane plus the space from the already painted edge lines will be enough for nicely separated bike infrastructure.

Many large islands of various shapes along Harbord St. between Spadina and Bathurst: This bike lane is shaping up to have a deluxe vibe:

Did you grab a pizza slice (and some crack cocaine) at Pizza Gigi?

P.S. Okay... wow this was over 14 years ago 😮.

I made the mistake of parking in the angle parking spots a few years ago. An absolute horror trying to leave, especially as a novice driver.

I could definitely see resistance to the bike lane from the Donlands businesses, and potentially local residents, if the frosty reception to the Cosburn and Woodbine lanes were any indication. At a minimum, I would like to see protected bike lanes on Donlands between Danforth and Cosburn.

Danforth to Cosburn is much easier.

The angled parking removal would result in the loss of several spaces.........maybe as many as 1/2 if replaced with parallel parking. As the sidewalk there is narrow, and I would support the addition of at least some trees.......likely closer to half than not.

This could be offset by implementing paid parking on Plains road or by creating a small off-street facility.

But in any event there are added costs, and probably still some unhappy folks.
