Still a bunch cheaper to be sure, but not quite as extreme as it first looks.

The principle difference is excise tax, particularly provincial.

Based on the above, the difference is about .67c on each can.

A difference of $16 for a 24 in the example above, and if you extrapolated that to 30 its an extra $20 in tax in Canada embedded in the price.

Brewer's Retail and LCBO markups account for most of the rest.

Still a good deal even after the exchange rate! I have actually seen beer cheaper than that at the discount stores. Of course usually it's all corporate swill.
