Idk if this would work, but it’d be cool to see DECL and OCL (WCL?) build some volunteers teams and community around some clean up efforts. We’ve had some success in our community with that, but I know it’s a different beast than the complexity of DT having more garbage and hazards, plus more mobile/renter residents that likely feel less like owners than long time homeowners in more residential areas.

There have been similar efforts in the past, some organized and some not, going back decades. Some of them are municipal (Edmonton's Clean City Crew), some are non-profit focused (Downtown Proud) and some had businesses "adopting" and being responsible for specific blocks. Some have survived in various renditions, others have not...
 
DECL has had a spring clean up event for over 15 years, we partnered with the DRC effort last year and will be doing it again this year.

I also keep my local block and park clean on a more than weekly basis and a bunch of Downtown volunteers stepped up during the pandemic to sweep and keep streets and parks clean.

I am sad that the City has not brought back the River Valley Cleanup event since the pandemic. Really a shame.

Yeah, these efforts are awesome and important for key seasonal changeovers and such.

But more something like how safewalk operates where people sign up for shifts and volunteer every week or 2. Gives consistency.

Lots of individuals do their part I know too. But they need more support!
 
Good Goods opened today in the former Metro Billards space. Includes a pop up by Bagel Bar and Token Bitters. Still more stock to come.

Project is part of the EDBA’s retail attraction program.

I wonder how that location will work for them and would have thought that something on Jasper or 104st might have been better.

Actually, the spot that could have been very neat for them would have been the old 7-11 on 103st.

My thoughts to in terms of location. It doesn't scream visibility. I walk downtown a lot and wouldn't even notice this existed.

Hope they do well though.
 
Very interesting spot. I’ve got to imagine this is one of the lowest foot traffic streets in all of downtown. I can’t think of many that would have less. But if they have good socials, hopefully they can draw people over.

Definitely feels like a good example of us not concentrating our best stuff enough though. This near 103st, 104st, even 105st would just fit so much better.

Pics are the 3 other corners of this intersection. About as tough as it gets for our DT right now.
