How likely is it that the BRT will hit delays going westbound during this stretch? I honestly don't know how bad traffic is in that area.
as someone who drives in the evening from the whitby go station eastbound on dundas, The problem isnt westbound its eastbound.

This is shown in metrolinx's secondary proposal to just have an eastbound car lane and only remove the westbound

im iffy on the mixed use lane, but since council voted for it, looks like it will stay that way

Meeting next week, June 3rd. As per the below:

And DRT will provide service directly to McCowan station starting in September. Plus, DRT will be debuting 24hr service! With the 900, 901C running every 30 min overnight which is quite reasonable. And On-Demand service will be able to serve the urban areas of the region. With that, DRT will be connected to the TTC nightbus system!

When is the SRT shutting down again?

Preliminary schedule for some of the BRT improvements; a fair bit of work next year in Pickering:

Ajax also has work penciled in for next year:

Oshawa and Whitby are pretty limited investments, mostly from 2024 onwards.

But the full program can be seen in the Durham Transit Executive Ctte agenda for June 2nd.

Starts at about p.10

The sidewalks and cycle track will be welcome additions here.

Overnight service is a really smart use of On-Demand. I’ve made a few late night trips like the last GO bus or connection with TTC and had to take a cab to my final destination. Essentially people will still be taking a cab, but for a flat fare.

DRT is looking at fare-free transit?

Much rather see this money towards improving service. DRT's high-frequency 30 min network would count as limited service in Toronto. Burlington Transit has plans to move towards a bus grid and run 15 min bus service on them as well as running more buses to the GO stations. The person who runs Burlington Transit is the same person who turned around Brampton Transit for the better.

Agreed. As Melbourne learned the hard way, free transit is a fantastic way to absolutely destroy it as it encourages people to use transit for trips they probably shouldn't be using transit for, which in Melbourne's case resulted in the free tram routes being slower than just walking because you have a ton of people getting on and off at every stop.

Now looking at the document, it seems like the goal is to pilot it for a short period of time to boost ridership. This is actually an interesting idea. Boost the frequency of your service to an acceptable level that people want to use, advertise that its free for a few months so that people try it out, and if what you have is good and people want to stick with it, reintroduce fares and you have a decent transit system with a good amount of farebox revenue to support it, rather than just running 30 minute busses with minimal amount of revenue and high fares. I just hope that it is only for a short time period and not a permanent set up.

I’m glad to see that McCowan station will actually serve a purpose instead of just being like a streetcar loop station.

Brampton and YRT has never implemented 24 hour service yet, hopefully they catch up before Burlington or Hamilton decides they want to have overnight service as well. One can now go from UTM-Durham College/Ontario Tech overnight, not that I suggest it, but that is still amazing to have.

York seems to be determined to make the case it doesn't deserve the subway it has, let alone another.

The service level they run, even on Yonge is not great, and hardly subway worthy.

At the bare minimum they need 24-hour service on 7; Yonge and Jane (subway and future subway routes); and a number of other N-S routes.

But they also need to consider running something that would pass for real service during the day too!
