Hold up, in the comments it seems like they're suggesting pickup from the old location (right next to the building) will now be paid?!
Except for about 4 stalls that were marked as immediate pickup / cell phone pickup, every spot to stop in the old location were already technically paid spots. Perhaps (hopefully) that's what they mean.

I believe you're correct but the way it specifically makes a distinction between paid and free arrivals pick-up is concerning.
 

I expected a little better for September. Seems like a lot more of the same although FBO passengers were notably up a good amount. Looks like Domestic will end the year in the negative overall. Projecting a pretty decent October but September underperformed my projections, so we will see how that plays out.

I know 7 people who flew international in the past month who all drove to Calgary from here. One was even flying on KLM, but drove to Calgary because her sister was there. A group of 4 was to Germany for Octoberfest. I'm surprised Condor doesn't keep its flight from YEG longer.

And then this summer two seperate couples drove to Calgary for a Japan flight. I guess the Westjet flight from here to Japan via YYC was enough of a difference that they decided to drive.

too bad YEG doesn't add a column for those forced to drive...

I can understand why an airline wouldn't want to have and VVC/YEG hop on their long flights, those rotations add to airframe use and massive fuel costs for a relative few passengers...
 
The year to date for transborder and international seem fairly good, it seems to be more domestic travel that is languishing.

But in any event, building up international continues to be a challenge. We probably have the worst international service of any city our size in Canada.

It is unfortunate many people from here still are forced to drive to Calgary to benefit their airport and economy.

Wish Porter would make Edmonton a hub on a northern route, would be great for a quick flight into Vancouver or other parts...
 
It does feel like more and more people I talk to taking the Westjet overseas flights decide to park at yyc and fly from there rather than start their trip at YEG and make the connection in yyc. Almost always the reason isn’t cost but they just want to minimize the chance of delays and missed connections and maintain a bit more control.
 
I prefer to avoid flying from Calgary because I don't like the idea of having to drive for 3 hours down the QE2 (which can be a gong show) and having to pay exorbitant rates for parking. If I have no other viable choice then I would rather utilize the transportation options to YEG and fly to YYC. Yes there can be delays and missed flights, but the same issues can also occur at other airports such as YYZ or YVR.

Have a buddy who like those above didn't want to miss his flight at YYC, but being winter, not gonna drive, took the bus, worked out well...
 
I've always found it weird how few intercontinental flights fly out of Edmonton. I believe we only have a direct flight to Amsterdam Schiphol and Frankfurt. Edmonton is closer to both Europe and Asia than Calgary, so it should in theory be more efficient to run flights to those destinations out of YEG. I know Calgary is a bigger centre, but it isn't that much bigger. (edit: I know YYC airport is much bigger than YEG, I mean the metro areas are similar sized not the airports)

Imo Edmonton should at least have direct flights to:

- Paris Charles de Gaulle
- London Heathrow
- Tokyo (Haneda or Narita)

Also insane that Edmonton doesn't have direct flights to New York or Chicago.

As Wendover Productions explained in some older videos, business class seats are the bread and butter for airlines’ revenue. Most of the energy companies in Canada have their head offices in Calgary, so flights out of YYC sell more business-class seats. That’s why airlines prefer to fly there, regardless of population, distance to destinations, and heck, regardless of proximity to Banff (because tourists don’t pay the premium for business-class seats). And since they already favour it, they just consolidated their Prairie operations and put a hub down in Calgary. We’ve got to attract more businesses, particularly offices, to Edmonton if we want better flight options (that’s how we got service to SFO). Plus, with sanctions on Russia, that makes it tougher to fly routes over the North Pole where Edmonton has the distance advantage. I do still think it’s ludicrous that we don’t have flights to London, New York or Chicago though.
