And I think religious gatherings can compliment downtown social scenes well as they're often mornings/afternoons, and for Christians, Sundays. Whereas nightlife, bars, festivals are more afternoon and evening/night.
I agree, I hope that we can get angry street preachers with megaphones on every corner in DT!
Just kidding, I know what you meant and I think it's an interesting point lol. Just being snarky.

so people who have no problem wasting their money gambling get butt hurt if they have to pay $5 for parking? underground, secure, warm parking. I bet a lot of them pay more just to drive to those suburban casinos; but hey, free parking!

Thousands of parking spaces under Ice District ... parking should not be a problem.
One would think but many do not want to pay or go underground. Quick, easy, cheap!

As for events, keep in mind that parking at the Coliseum was $15 or $16 back a few years ago for event nights.

Every time I go to Loblaws in the Brewery District, I always use the clean, safe and FREE underground parking.
Meanwhile, the majority of dumbasses will continue to jam their SUVs in the crowded ground-level parking.

I'd often park my SUV above ground as well unless it is busy. Just seemed quicker than having to navigate underground.

You are right that underground parking was always readily available though.

Car-men oh Car-men my love... you DRIVE me crazy. I am WHEELy glad I met you. You hold the KEY to my TRANSMISSION into a free-DRIVING personable personage. I will buy you diamond-studded HUBCAPS or anything else you STEER me towards. I love you with the TOP-DOWN, and your ENGINE revving. Please don't ever change. (now back to my wine glass).

The Brewery District is great. I have parked both underground and above level. It depends where I am going, how long , the season and the weather, etc...

I think two of the reasons for having the underground parking are to allow for a smaller surface parking area so there can be more retail and to make it attractive in colder or poor weather.

I also suspect some people see the surface parking and don't even realize the underground parking is free and unrestricted.

Haha. Nothing contributes to a vibrant street than people yelling at people who don't want to listen!

Yeah, the right kind of communities is what I'd hope for. Not the outliers that scream and yell! I have a friend that goes to a church in NY that does so many great things in the community for families, to partner with local orgs etc. Tons of young people and kids. Would be cool to see some of that life in our city from different religious groups.

Most of our DT temples or catholic and Christian churches are pretty old and struggling from what I can see.

Well, many of those impressive large old church buildings were constructed at a time when most people actually came downtown from other parts of the city .

Of course they are also dealing with big demographic shifts in the area and social changes over the years. So, I suspect it is challenging for them, however they have outlasted the department stores.

Just watched an interesting documentary on C3 Church and it appears to me that they're no different from the expansionist Evangelical mega churches in the US. If we want to see more good done in our communities like Downtown, we already have a number of wonderful non-profits not directly linked to a corporate church structure that can always use more donations (thinking of Boyle Street's plans for a new building behind Rogers, for example).

Yeah. C3 globally is a bit more controversial. I think of churches like Beulah in edmonton though that started many of our city's non profits and still offer significant funding and volunteers annually. I believe beulah gives over a million a year to other non profits. That feels like a win for the urban fabric of a community!

$1 million in non-profit support is sure nothing to sniff at! Getting more of that funding invested in core communities like Downtown would be great to see.

Molson and the Oilers are teaming up to put a "Hall of Fan" somewhere at Rogers. Here is a link.
For their unwavering passion through abnormal times, Molson Canadian is celebrating the real MVP’s of hockey, the fans. In partnership with the Oilers, Molson has created the Molson Hall of Fan, an in-arena shrine of the most deserving fans to ever Rep Our Home.
Tell us your story now until November 15th, 2021!

Anyone going to submit their story???
Great idea. They need more areas like this in the concourses within the arena itself and in the pedway areas. I love Ford Hall and arena but there are too many plain off-white walls. Need more visual appeal and animation.
