Apologies if this has been talked about earlier in the thread, but has there been any mention of how this line is going to tie into the subway?

Based on the dim likelihood of any transit being built in Toronto at any given time, it seems unlikely that the design requirements for Finch station would have put much forethought into the connection between subway and LRT. Perhaps there's a knockout wall or two, but I wonder if they even bothered with that.

Portal on either side of Keele to connect to the underground station. Rough-in completed as part of TYSSE. Think St. Clair West without the loop - just a platform(s).

Recently I was working @ Finch ave west & Arrow/Signet intersection , very ,very busy with large trucks going north & turning right all day long !
Also many trucks heading south on Signet Dr. & turning left to Finch east to hwy 400 ramps.
This is what we call a three phase intersection so main st is Finch ave east / west one phase then the light changes to the side st.
Northbound Arrow rd gets priority, north ,left & right turns (ph.#2).
Southbound, east & west have a red signal.
Then n/b light goes amber, then red & then Southbound gets to go (ph.#3).
When going S/B you get Green arrows for straight through , left & right.
So this creates a log jam E/W traffic flow! Because your waiting ( E/W ) 1/3 more time than a normal Int.
Mammoliti has a valid concern here, one of the busiest trucking area's of the city. Almost always trucks turning @ this intersection.
I hope Metrolinx gets this right & figures this out properly or there will be some major traffic issues through this corridor!
PS. Not a Mammoliti supporter ( any one who blocks a new rapid line in his own district must only care about the businesses that support him & not the working people that need reliable transit.)
Subways! Subways!Subways! NOT!
But I wonder if they should be putting the FWLRT underground or North of Finch near the Hydro Corridor because Weston rd. is also very busy Int.
This of course would cost more, lets do it right so we don't bung up this whole area like they did with very poor planning like the St Clair W. & Keele St.(Train bridge east of keele) single lane Bridge fiasco !

Almost like Eglinton. When you start counting the very busy intersections where the line needs grade-separation, you realize that the line should be grade-separated in its entirety and then reap the benefits of a fully grade-separated line.

Infrastructure Ontario announced today that they'd issued the RFP to teams.
  • The announcement notes that early works will begin in 2016, with the start of major construction in 2017, with completion in 2021.

Pretty well lines up with Crosstown completion. Quite a big shift in a short period of time.

So it looks like the line would have to be underground for about 500m to clear Romfield Lane and Tangiers Road. With portals beyond these intersections, there is room for the line to become elevated. It would continue elevated (probably switching from the median to the south side before the Jane station and then continue west above 400 and Weston to miss all those busy intersections. The question remains whether the last 5 km should be elevated. The Islington interchange may not be quite as busy, but the triangle of Kipling, Finch and Albion together probably warrant grade-separation here too. To the east (when its finally done), grade-separation would be needed at Dufferin, after which (either after Ross Lord Reservoir or Northview Heights) it would likely go into the hydro corridor to meet Finch station.

They updated the EA to add a below grade terminal at Humber College & Highway 27 (combining Humber College and Highway 27 stops into one), with the LRT going under Highway 27 at Finch.

Yes, I know its not planned for elevation.

But as WishlaHD and Wrench said a few posts back, Metrolinx or the City may realize the traffic nightmare they are about to create and I just want to point out that the current plan for the Spadina interchange can be improved without major effort. Its never too late to do the right thing.

No, the portals start at those streets, they are the pink sections of the diagram. it is only underground where the platform is.

And that was still a big leap to get to an elevated line.

That's how this idea came about.

The project at hand looks like it will have big problems within a couple of km's of highway 400. Either we just ignore them, or we try to solve them before it's too late.
