It's not Calgary and it definitely isn't a city, but it sure is one hell of a skyline. :D I just got back from an excellent trip to the family cottage in Ontario and I'm now happily engaged! If you can believe it. ;)

a few days back Druh Farrell had mentioned on Twitter that a new affordable housing project is coming to East Village. Does anyone know anything about that?

How familiar are you with Muskoka? The closest major town is Huntsville about a half hour away, but the closest population centre is a hamlet called Dorset. That's only about 5 minutes.
Somewhat familiar, I stayed a a family cottage of a friend once. The nearest town was called Gravenhurst. It was a nice experience, and was my first time spending any time in the Canadian outdoors , other than visits to Banff. (I'm not from Canada originally)

Oh really? Where is home for you originally?

Honestly, I don't think you can do better than the Rockies and Cottage Country for Canadian Outdoor experiences. I'll take the Rockies over Cottage Country myself, but it's a heck of consolation prize for people living out east.

Gravenhurst is pretty close. I think it's about 45 minutes to an hour away from my cottage by highway. So the terrain around your friend's cottage is probably pretty similar.

Interesting announcement from the Tsuu T'ina Nation. They've added some detail to their development plans adjacent to the ring road.

They're proposing 3 new development areas which will focus on retail, commercial and hospitality. It isn't the most exciting plan, but honestly I think it's long past due that they persued development of this sort. I hope it works out well. I grew up on the west side of town and spent over a decade schooling within a few blocks of the reserve. It's like an entierly separate world; closed off and distant even though it's just right there. My biggest concern would be for managing the interaction with the nearby communities like Lake View and Oakridge, but hopefully the relationship leads to more constructive contact between the city and the nation rather than more conflict.

Home for me is Calgary, but Vietnam and Hong Kong when I was a little boy. I agree with you fully about the Rockys Mountains, they are beautiful, and we are lucky to have them so close to the city. That area near to Grvenhurst is also very nice. Lots of good places in Canada.

I noticed some trucks and some drilling going on at the SE corner of 16th ave and 4th st NW. Not large drilling equipment but smaller. Does anyone know what is happening there? It would be nice to see something built on that empty lot.
