These pictures are also a month old now, but I still really wanted to share them. They were taken on a gloriously sunny September evening and they're of the U of C Campus which is surprisingly a rare subject given how much it has changed in the last 5 years. Arcitecture has never been the U of C's strong suit, but I think the new buildings are mostly improvements. I'm sad to see so much green space go though. Not just for new buildings, but they seemed to have paved over some rather extensive swaths for foot paths and plazas as well. The feel of the U of C is a little more modern an I think harmonious that it used to be, but it also feels a little more sterile in places.
This is actually the skyline from SAIT, not the U of C. I happened to be there earlier the same day and it's still somewhat collegiate so I feel like it fits. It was also my first shot with my new camera.
The Taylor Family Digital Library isn't bad and definitley kicks the pants off the old Library Tower, but the nice little wetland out front is pretty poor compensation for the nice green space populated by tall old elms that used to occupy the TFDL's plot. The main entryway is probably the worst instance of overpaving. Maybe they could throw a mural up on that bit of the Rozsa Centre or put a garden in front of it there to add some more life. That bit of wall was pretty inocuous when it was on a back road hidden by trees, but it's a little harsh against that plaza.
Three new buildings on the North end of campus, the new education building, some new dorms and the face of the revamped engineering building.
Some green spaces near the Olympic Oval and the Swann Mall.
This building is actually approaching a decade old now, but it was the only new building actually completed while I was attending school, so it still feels new to me. The International House/Hotel Alma is still my favourite building on Campus.
