June 2
Finally got to tour the new Steeles underpass and do an update on Millikin Station.
As usual, cycles and pedestrians have to bear the brunt of being inconvenience in the name traffic coming first and this project is no exception. To go east on Steeles, one had to get off the Kennedy bus south of the bus stop as that whole block is seeing sidewalk and lane curb built to the point you must cross Kennedy to get to the west side to cross Steeles and then go east on the north side of Steeles a block. You then cross Steeles on the east side of the street to get to the unfinish south side to continue east. The cycling lane is not really open in places and plywood over the holes where trees will be planted at some point.
Going to miss getting photos and videos of fools who cross the tracks as the trains are arriving or departing the station with crossing gates down and flashing lights.
Still a lot of work to still be done on the south side and haft of the west retaining wall is in place on the north side.
Suppose to be 2 lanes going east and one west, but one of the eastbound lane close due to crews working in the road manhole. No real sidewalk or curb at the east end of the underpass.
Crews working on the west side tunnel and stair/elevator that has yet to see wall forming. Good area to get to the east side stair/elevator.
Still have a fair amount of roadwork and soon to be built retaining wall on the east side for the westbound lanes and sidewalk.
Very little has change for the station other than more roofing over the platform and the new west side stair/elevator area nearing the surface. Still nothing done for the east elevator going on 2 years. No work on the west new platform.
Summer of 2022 can't come fast for the completion of this project
Lot more photos up on site.
