If the point was to serve London to Toronto commuters, then it would go through Brantford - which doesn't need much in the way of upgrades. VIA Rail already serves this market well. What would be ideal would be if GO starts doing trips INTO London in the am with trains leaving in pm. This would mean that the service would actually be useful for London commuters as opposed to just another way to get to Toronto.
All day to Milton is unlikely to happen without a 4th/3rd track and grade separation near Humber. Although word is that one of my friends waited all day to see a single cp freight to go by erindale go...
Excellent service envisioned, from PDBC:^ and the PDBC. Written in 2020 but only published now
Re GM spur:
7 New is too useful as a reelection tool for governing parties to actual finish the project. I predict it will remain in-progress for another 50 years at least. I just find it unbelievable that voters actual fall for this continual bate-and-switch.7 New has clearly been a political tool for decades and no government seems to want to foot the bill to actually build it.
The business case states the plan to run diesel bi-levels in 6-12 car trains - i.e., normal GO Trains.^Three percent grade at Oshawa, diesel operation possibly requiring shorter trainsets and/or two units.
